I knocked on the door three times. I started breathing a little heavier. After a few minutes I decided it was wrong to come here. Or maybe I should have called. I turned around and just as I stepped down from the porch I heard a rough voice. "Joshua?" I took in a breath before turning round and meeting the eyes I hadn't seen in nearly 18 years.
"Hey dad." He stepped out the house as I stepped back on the porch. He looked me up and down for a moment before reaching out and grabbing my arms. Pulling me into his. After a few minutes of hugging, he invited me into the house. "Nice place." I commented as I sat down on the couch. He sat down on the one opposite me.
"Yeah thanks. I moved in about 9 years ago." He said awkwardly. "How have you been?" The old man asked. I nodded.
"Um, yeah I've been good I guess. I work for the FBI now. Still hunting too." I said building up to tell him about Haylie. "I'm sorry it's been so long." I sighed. He quickly shook his head.
"It's okay son. I understand, I took away your daughter." He said and I nodded. "Your here now though." He smiled. I nodded again swallowing the lump in my throat.
"I accept your apology." I said looking directly at him. "You did what was right taking her away from us..." I started but stopped when I heard the front door shut.
"Arthur! Who's car is in the drive?" The familiar voice came and she walked in the living room. "Josh." She breathed and I smiled.
"Hey Sarah." She looked to my dad. Obviously surprised to see me here. I hadn't spoken to either of them since Sarah's death was faked. Since the day Haylie was born.
"What are you doing here?" She asked and I looked down to my feet.
"I came to talk about Haylie." When I said my daughters name Sarah quickly moved and sat down next to my dad.
"What about her?" She asked worried. I smiled. "Did you meet her?" She asked looking at my smile. I nodded and she took in a breath.
"She um. She found out about the adoption and she found out you and I were her real parents." Sarah looked shocked.
"She knows about me?" She asked and I nodded.
"She thinks your dead though. Just like everybody else in beacon hills."
"You've been living in beacon hills all this time?" My dad asked and I shook my head.
"No I moved away about 12 years ago when Haylie was 6. But I moved back this year."
"What's she like?" Sarah said quickly and eager to learn about her daughter. I knew I had to tell them. But not yet.
"Amazing. She is beautiful and smart, selfless and so kind." I chuckled thinking about her. "Stubborn as hell." Sarah smiled a little and I saw her eyes water. "When she first found about me she was pretty pissed, but some stuff happened and we started to get along. She accepted me into her life." I sighed looking down at my feet.
"What do you mean stuff happened?" My dad asked. Also eager to learn about his granddaughter.
"Anchors attract werewolves remember." I chuckled humourlessly. "Beacon hills is still a beacon for the supernatural. Her and her friends managed to get themselves in the middle of it." I said running a hand through my hair. "The police department might as well not exist with those kids around." I laughed.
"She fell in love with a werewolf didn't she?" Sarah asked hoping for a no but I nodded.
"He was good for her though. Protected her as much as he could. Derek hale." I said and they both stiffened.
