(Peter busts through the doors and sprints to the front desk.)
PETER: (panicking) "Hi, I'm looking for a May Parker! She probably came in sometime in the last 4 or 5 days. She's about my height, maybe a little shorter; wears glasses; her favorite song is "Take On Me", but I don't know why you'd know that...oh, and she also hurt her shoulder playing softball in 7th grade, so her collarbone is a little messed up."
(The receptionist looks confused, completely lost by what just happened.)
RECEPTIONIST: "I'm gonna have to ask you to repeat that, cause all I got from that was "Take On Me"."
(Cut to Aunt May laying down on a hospital bed in a hospital gown, seemingly passed out. Peter, as well as a doctor, is only a couple feet away from her.)
PETER: "So she came in here on Tuesday?"
DOCTOR: "Precisely, she was complaining about lightheadedness, dizziness, lack of energy, among other symptoms."
PETER: "Oh, so what are we working with here, doc? Flu? Fever? A cold?"
DOCTOR: "See, I thought it was just a bad case of the flu, but then we looked into her blood sample and..."
PETER: "And what?"
DOCTOR: "She seems to have encountered some kind of lethal toxin in her bloodstream...estimated duration is anywhere from one to 3 weeks."
PETER: "Ok...we wait 3 weeks and then what? She can go home?"
DOCTOR: "No...it could kill her."
(We see Aunt May's face and find out she's been awake the entire time. This is her first time hearing about how fatal her condition is. A tear crawls down her face, so she plays it off as if she is just waking up and wipes the tear away. Peter and the doctor are surprised; the doctor leaves as Peter sits right next to Aunt May.)
PETER: "Hey May..."
MAY: "What's up kiddo? What do you think about the new wardrobe? I could walk down a red carpet in this thing."
PETER: (manages to force out a laugh in order much to suppress the sadness) "Why didn't you call me? You got me worried..."
MAY: "Sorry Pete, I didn't think it was this bad. I still need to transfer money into your checking account, call up my friend Patricia so you can stay with her, and teach you how to do laundry before I..." (the tears start to be irresistible as 4 or 5 roll down her cheek)
PETER: "Stop, you don't have to worry about anything. You've spent so much of your life picking me up when I'm down, it's only fair that I help you this one time. I promise!" (He puts his head down and holds Aunt May's hand, resisting tears of his own.) "You're the only family I have left...I can't lose you...not now..."
MAY: "Come here..." (they embrace each other, finally letting the tears out) "Y'know, for such a young man, you act like you hold the weight of the world...I'll be just fine. You just have to trust in the universe...everything happens for a reason."
