(Our hero, Spider-Man sits on the ledge of a building, listening to the police transmission on the radio through FRIDAY. He is staring at the city, but his mind is not in the moment, but rather in the future. All he can think about are possible outcomes that could follow the Aunt May situation; however, he can't help but focus on the bad scenarios.
He tries to shake it off for a moment, but the effort is short-lived as it creeps back into him like a virus. However, a voice suddenly pops up.)FRIDAY: "High speed police chase on 25th and Broadway. They are armed and dangerous."
SPIDEY: "Got it."
(Instantly, Spider-Man swings into action; however, there is something this time. If you typically imagine bright, fun music during a Spidey chase scene, this particular one seems more gloomy and chaotic.)
(Cut to 2 police cars chasing down a speeding bullet that has 4 men in it, all armed with assault rifles.)
CRIMINAL 1: (he's the driver) "I can't shake 'em! Someone gettem off my back!"
CRIMINAL 2: (in the backseat) "I gotchu."
(Criminal 2 breaks through the window and starts shooting at the police with his rifle, effectively blowing out a tire on one of the police cars.
The other police car speeds up beside the criminals' car.)OFFICER: (over PA system) "Pull over right now! This is your last warning!"
CRIMINAL 1: (to his friends) "Does he really think that we would do what we did and just pull over?"
(The officers start to shoot at the car and successfully blows out one of the criminals' own tires.
However, before spinning out, the criminals ram into the police car, sending it flying towards a couple of citizens until a web wall is made between the citizens and the car, causing the car to be stuck in midair. The cops and citizens sigh in relief as Spider-Man swings into action, but not as his usual quippy self.)CRIMINAL 3: "Yo, it's Spider-Man! What do we do?"
(The driver looks back and doesn't see anything.)
CRIMINAL 1: "Our tire's out, I gotta pull over here!"
(He swerves into an alley and they immediately get out of the car, holding guns and their loot.
Moments of silence follow them, as they stand in anxiety because of subtle noises of movement all around them.)
CRIMINAL 2: "We're not scared of you!"
(Criminal 2 loads a clip into his gun and is about to pull the trigger in order to cause a ruckus, but the gun is yanked from him; in fact, all the other criminals get their firearms taken away from them.)
SPIDEY: (offscreen) "I don't like guns, especially in the hands of people like you."
(Suddenly, Spider-Man flies in from the darkness and stands in front of them.)
SPIDEY: "Hopefully your boxing isn't too bad."
(They all decide to charge at Spider-Man, but the web-head maneuvers through the air like an acrobat and lands strikes that the criminals will surely feel in the morning.)
SPIDEY: "You think you can just kill people and get away with it? Those people you almost killed have families! Their human beings, unlike you! In fact, let me..." (he jumps over to their damaged car.) "...give you a taste of your own medicine!"
(He lifts the car and chucks it towards the criminals when a flame seems to lift the car and set it down.
The criminals start to run away, but a ring of fire crashes down around them, trapping them in place: it's the Human Torch AKA Johnny Storm.)JOHNNY: (to Spider-Man) "I know it's ironic coming from the fire-guy, but you need to chill."
(Spider-Man looks at the car, then looks at the criminals, then looks at his own hands. He was just about to kill 4 human beings because of his emotions. What makes him better than the villains?
He slings himself up to the rooftop of a nearby building, takes off his mask, and drops to his knees, defeated. Johnny lands right in front of him.)
JOHNNY: "Yo, what's wrong, man?"
SPIDEY: "Nothing...it's just...it's just been a long week, I guess."
JOHNNY: "Hey man, you're alright. It'll all figure itself out, I promise..."
(We linger on them reflecting on the past 5 minutes, then cut to later that night.
We find Harry walking into the dorm to find Peter crying on his bed.)HARRY: (rushing to Peter's side) "Woah man, what's wrong? You ok?"
PETER: "She's dying! She's dying, Harry!"
HARRY: "Wait, what? Who's dying?"
PETER: "Aunt May! And there's nothing I can do to help!"
HARRY: "Aw man, that's tough...I'm really sorry."
(They embrace. Peter looks like a man on the edge, ready to jump.)
HARRY: "I'm really really sorry...I wish there was something I could do to help...but I know someone who can."
(Cut to Peter walking into a laboratory near uptown New York City.)
PETER: "Hello? Norman Osborn?"
(Norman emerges from an office to greet Peter with a smile.)
NORMAN: "Mr. Parker...I'm really sorry about the news." (He puts his arm on Peter's shoulder.) "I'm gonna do whatever it takes to help get your aunt to full health, ok?"
PETER: "Thank you, I appreciate it...but I found this at your expo." (He takes out a vial containing a green liquid.) "I saw it drop out of the ambushers' bags and I figured it might be something. Maybe it'll help?"
NORMAN: "I'll see what I can do about it; as for right now, go and get some rest. You look like you need it."
PETER: "I'll try." (He turns around to walk out, but stops and turns back.) "Thank you for your help..."
NORMAN: "It's the least I could do for you, Parker."
(Peter continues to walk away, but we see something in his eyes: a sort of aesthetic change. It's almost as if his eyes are turning white.
However, moments pass before our questions are answered: the Peter that cried in the bedroom and manipulated Norman Osborn was actually The Chameleon. He walks out with a smirk on his face.)
