~ Present ~

I unlocked the door to the apartment, excitement and sadness yanking on my heart. Pulling open the door, the smell of clean wood and fresh air enters my nose. I walk in with November behind me and my father following us in.

He wanted to make sure we got here safely without running into any unwanted people, if you know what I mean. I think he also was afraid to let go.

I look up at the tall ceiling, and the two giant pained windows on the far side, showing a full view of Austin's beautiful city below. My heart instantly leaps at the sight, and I know I'm going to love this place already.

"Dad, this is beautiful." I gasp, walking in and absorbing the rest of the apartment.

"It's what your mother would've wanted for you." Father said, walking past me in a simple stride. He abruptly turns around in the middle of the room, a small smile upon his face.

I follow him, already imagining where all the furniture would go and tables would be placed. Thankfully we were able to order everything online, and it would be here by tomorrow. It wasn't a lot, of course, because the majority of the rest of the money would have to go to pay rent and monthly payments. The only thing we did have were the basics. Obviously we needed a little bit of food and a place to sleep and a few blankets, which we had brought from home.

Dad lent a mattress that we could sleep on until the bed came in. Hopefully the nights sleep wouldn't be too bad, since my anxiety wasn't at a pleasant level at the moment.

Flashes of what have happened back in the cellar brought tremors through my body, reminding me I wasn't safe even though I was out. I had been having really bad nightmares ever since Derek told me Harrison wasn't dead. The constant fear wasn't helping my mental state, especially while dealing with mourning over my mother.

"Well, I'll let you get settled kiddo." My dad said, placing a hand gently on my shoulder and waking me from my thoughts. I brought my gaze up to him, giving him a small smile. He flashed one back before saying goodbye to November too, who was currently leaning on the wall, and finally left with a soft click of the door.

I stayed silent for awhile, leaving November to do whatever while I finished taking a look around the place. It had a master with a walk in closet and a decent sized bathroom attached. There was also another bedroom that rested on the left of the kitchen, across from the master. It wasn't huge, but thankfully it wasn't small. There was an extra storage closet and an additional small bathroom.

I came back after finishing my run-through, finding that November had found his way into the kitchen and was resting his elbows on the marble counter.

"How is it?" He said as I walked up to him. I lean on the edge of the counter across from him, running a hand over the marble.

"Very nice." I say, feeling his gaze on me. When I meet it, it almost looks-- scared. I take that back, the look in his eyes is fear. "November..."

"I'm okay, just... Uneasy." He trails, and suddenly sits up, running both hands through his hair. "Fuck, no... I'm scared, Hazel. For you mostly."

I frown and walk around the counter, wrapping my arms around him comfortingly. November hesitates for a fraction of a second before finally hugging me back tightly.
