DESCRIPTION: James and Riley get married, but Piper isn't happy. Why?
WHAT TO READ: Book 1: Origami
DATE PUBLISHED: 07/01/19Piper looked on as the newlyweds, James and Riley, danced in the centre of the room. They looked happy, but she wasn't.
Walking over to the window, Piper reflected on her surroundings.
She was happy for her brother, getting married to his dream girl, but knowing what she had to do next scared her.
Though the venue gave off happiness, it also encouraged a realization about her own relationship with Alfie.
Spotting him in the distance, Piper gulped. She glanced down at the glass in her hands which shook with her emotions.
She couldn't do it...how could she?
Alfie had been a caring boyfriend and always had Piper's best interests at heart, but she couldn't ignore the big inconvenience the pair had been ignoring for so long.
Piper stepped outside, following the bright full moon hanging over the venue.
Hearing footsteps behind her, she knew their time had come.
Piper turned around and watched Alfie gaze at her with the affection she had been so used to seeing.
Just as her mouth was about to open and utter out some heart-breaking words, she heard words she hoped she wouldn't have to.
"I love you."
Freezing in her spot Piper knew she had to speak now before Alfie got the wrong idea.
"Alfie, we can't be together," she replied.
The couple looked at each other with heartbroken feelings, studying the others reaction.
Piper studied Alfie's features one last time, for she knew what was to come next from her previous comment. It was over.
"I'm sorry," began Piper, "but I can't survive long distance. You have to go back to being a prince soon, and going back and forth for me is pointless," Piper tried to explain, but Alfie wasn't having it.
"No. We can make this work Piper. We can survive long distance. Let's prove everybody wrong." He reaches for Piper's hand, but she hurriedly pulls away.
"Let's be honest, you'll find someone new...I'll find someone new! Alfie distance matters to me because I know when you're over there you will find someone and I couldn't live like that." Tears build up in Piper's eyes, and she tries to blink them away. She couldn't cry, not now.
"There's no one, but you!" Alfie exclaims pointing at Piper.
Rolling her eyes Piper reminisced back to when Alfie would have said that to Riley.
"I'll put in the effort. It doesn't have to be this way."
"It does because I can't be in a relationship where I don't see my boyfriend!" Piper shouts, her voice breaking as tears begin to slide down her face.
Alfie stood with a look of shock, his emotions raw.
"Fine, if you really want us to end, then fine!"
Piper could hear Alfie's emotions shatter into millions of pieces before he turned away and stormed off.
Collapsing onto a chair nearby, Piper wept.
It was over.
"Piper!" She heard a familiar voice across the courtyard.
Looking up she saw her brother with someone she didn't recognize.
"What's wrong?" James asked dropping down beside his little sister.
"We broke up," Piper hiccoughed out before hugging her brother.
James held onto his sister and began talking, "I was hoping to introduce you to someone."
Piper looked up and saw a boy around her age with blonde hair.
"Piper, this is Finn, he's a dancer too."
The blonde, Finn, gave Piper an awkward smile and wave, to which Piper reciprocated.
Maybe, she was right.
Her and Alfie would find other people.
