Among the Shadows (2)
I arrived at Cara's house fifteen minutes late, due to my really long shower. Then I tried to complete all the homework assignments that made me fall behind, so I could catch up to my friends. Just as I was about to ring the doorbell, the door flew open, revealing a very angry Cara.
"Where the hell were you?! We have been waiting for almost an hour now!" she shrieked.
"Really? An hour?! Wow...I hadn't realized. I'm sorry." I replied absentmindedly. Cara sighed and pulled me through the door and into the living room. I assumed that everyone else was in Cara's room.
"Listen, Vicky, I know you've been hurt by your dad...and you know who,"
Cara started.
After the...big breakup...I told Cara to never speak his name or ever bring him up again.
"...but it's been almost half a year and you have to move on. I'm your best friend, and you have a whole group of friends upstairs that are willing to be by your side through anything and everything. So please, for me, will you join me again on earth?" she ended sarcastically.
"I'll try, mother." I said sarcastically.
"That's the Vicky I know!" Cara said, as we entered Cara's room.
After a successful evening of finishing not only my missing/forgotten assignments, but also my homework from today, and studied for most of my finals, I stuck around at Cara's place after everyone said their goodbyes and left for home. I had called my mom earlier to let her know where I was.
"Hey I just ordered some pizza; they said they would deliver within an hour. Ugh such bad service." Cara called out from the kitchen.
"YOU WANNA GO GET SOME ICE CREAM IN THE MEANTIME??" I yelled from my spot in front of the TV.
"You just HAD to yell everything out didn't you?! Yeah ice cream and pizza sounds fattening enough for me." Cara laughed as she put on her black flats on. As soon as I put my leather jacket back on, and retrieved my keys from my bag, we were ready to go.
"So tell me about Brian, did anything special happen between you two yet?" I asked Cara.
Cara had been crushing on this guy named Brian for a month now. I keep pushing her to try to talk and get to know him better. And maybe even ask him out. He was a shy type of guy in our History class, with curly bronze hair and light brown eyes.
Cara blushed and then said, "Well, I was gonna tell you sooner, but you know...you've sorta been in la la land...but...HE FINALLY ASKED ME OUT!!" She said excitedly.
"No way!!! I'm so happy for you!"
"Yeah, we're going to go out for lunch at The Patio on Saturday, and then go see that movie that everyone was talking about." She said dreamily.
"Wait...I though the theaters only show that movie around sunset to get the full feeling of darkness of it?" I asked, confused.
"Well yeah, in between then Trevor asked us to help him set up a surprise picnic place at the beach for his mysterious date. But he wouldn't tell us who the girl was." She replied.
"Oh." Was all I could say. I felt numb and guilty at the same time. Trevor would go through all that trouble just for me? ME? I felt like crying and melting of guilt at the same time. He was just too sweet.
It had become quiet in the car. I parked the car, and we walked into the ice cream parlor.
"Well, I hope you have a fantabulous time, Cara, you really deserve it." I said.
"You know, we should find the perfect guy for you too! So that when Brian and I start getting a bit further into the relationship, we can all go on a double date!" she said.
"I don't know Cara. It's not like a really hot guy with a personality to die for is gonna pop out of nowhere and ask me out by just glancing at me!" I said sarcastically as we stood in line to pay for our ice cream. I actually sort of expected that to happen. And flinched every time someone walked past us.
"Hmm..." uh oh, Cara's got that look again. Every time she gets "the look" it means that she's plotting something. "I vow to make sure that you get the perfect guy for you that won't let you down, won't hurt you, and will never in this life, break your heart" she said confidently.
"Yeah, okay, Cara, you do just that." I said rolling my eyes sarcastically.
"Excuse me," said a quiet voice.
I turned around and looked into the most gorgeous blue eyes with a touch of green in them. He had tousled black hair and a hot lean body. My heart sped up and it was a race, because right when i looked into those gorgeous eyes, i felt at ease, home. I suddenly trusted him with my life.
