Among the Shadows: Chapter 8:

Hey guys it's been a long time. Midterms are a pain in the ass.

Anyhow, I'm going to start limiting the POV's to just Victoria and Nathan from now on...maybe in the future if the story needs it I'll add in another POV.

BTW! I really appreciate the votes and fans! Thank you so much for your support J

Victoria's POV:

I hung up, and put my phone in my pocket. I looked at Nathan and he was grinning.

"What's so amusing?" I asked him.

"Your friend is very enthusiastic," he chuckled, "and I am most definitely not your mom."

I turned beet red and said, "You heard what Cara said?! Didn't anyone ever tell you to never eavesdrop?"

He probably thinks I'm a freak by now. Nathan tried to suppress a chuckle as he looked at me pout.

"Well you're sitting right next to me. I can't help that my hearing is just that awesome."

"Whatever," I said, trying to change the subject. "How far away is your apartment?" I asked him.

We've been driving for about thirty minutes, and still no sign of a neighborhood, or any kind of civilization for that matter. I looked out the window and saw an endless forest of evergreen trees. In the midst of it all, I could make out a huge lake. It was truly a breathtaking sight, for its water was glittering, and its color a crystal sky blue.

"We are just about..." Nathan began as he pulled into a parking lot for an apartment complex, "here." He finished.

I was impressed. The apartments were more like 6 townhouses stacked on top of each other. They all had French windows and enormous balconies. The most impressive, however, was the one all the way on top; it had giant windows, and a balcony that wrapped one side of the apartment to the other side, where I guessed the master bedroom was.

Nathan caught me gaping at the apartments and the scenery and he smirked. I gave him a glare as he led me toward the entrance. We didn't say much as we entered the elevator.

"How did I know," I muttered under my breath, as Nathan punched the button for the 6th floor.

 "What was that?" Nathan grinned.

I blushed and grumbled an incoherent reply. The elevator doors finally opened revealing a short hallway with only one gigantic, cherry wood double door. As we walked up to it, I noticed there was no keyhole, just a weird metal looking thing that required a password.

"Seriously? What did you have to do to get this apart-"I was cut off by Nathan.

"Something's wrong; it's flashing green," he said, his body tense and his eyes

hard.

"What's wrong about that? Isn't it supposed-"I was cut off again.

"No! It needs a password, for it to turn green. Someone's in there." He said in a low voice. "No one else knows the code, and I locked it before I left."

I felt the blood drain from my face. Too many things are going wrong today. Could this one just be a coincidence?

"Stand back and stay out here." Nathan pushed me against the wall next to the elevator doors.
