Chapter 14: River's dreams

River's pov

I woke up again from a nightmare. These nightmares are getting out of hand. First I see my friends dead and now visions of someone betraying us. What is wrong with me?, I thought. It was 3 o'clock in the morning. I didn't want to wake anyone up, so I quietly got some sweats on and went for a jog. I found out that taking a jog might help with the nightmares I've been having. Cy taught me a lot about how dreams are made. He told me jogging helps take your mind off of the bad things and helps you concentrate on the good things. While I was on my jog I kept seeing things from my nightmares, like familiar places. I brush it off and keep jogging. When I got back to the tower everyone was up. Lisa hugged me and looked at me like she was worried.

"River, where have been? I was so worried someone had taken you or worse.", Lisa asked.

I replied,"Lisa, it's ok. I just went for a jog."

BB asked,"Why would you do that?"

I said,"I couldn't sleep is all."

They looked at me like I just said something to set them off balance. Cy whispered something that sounded like nightmares. They all just smiled at me and we ate breakfast. BB has his tofu eggs, while the rest of us had waffles and hash browns. Raven looked at me weird. She got up and pulled me down the hall way and into her room. It was dark to say the least, but pretty cool, too.

I said,"So Rae what's up? Why'd you pull me away here?"

She asked me,"So have you been suffering from nightmares? Cause your mind is a complete wreck and I could sense when you got up at 3 in the morning you had just woken up from a nightmare."

I said,"So what if I do, I'm not telling you anything about them. Why do you ask anyway?"

She replied,"Just curious, and I was wondering does that jogging really work for you?"

I sighed,"In truth, it really does nothing for me. I have to go my breakfast is getting cold. Do you want me to bring you yours?"

She said,"I actually would like to talk to you more about it. Maybe I could help you with this problem of yours."

I said,"Raven, we really don't have to it's not a problem. I'm going fine and I really don't need or want your help. Not to be mean or anything, I just have to work on this thing alone."

I literally ran out of Raven's room and ran to the kitchen to finish my breakfast. Robin told me to just stay here today and not to do anything like training. I sighed and went to my room. I grabbed a book off the bookshelf and started to read. After awhile I started to fall asleep. I fell asleep by chapter ten. I had yet again another nightmare

Nightmare

It was dark and cold. I was in a dark and cold room, I saw my best friend, Lisa, strapped to a chair. She looks to have been stuck there for days. I tried to speak but my vocal cords were shot, my voice had vanished. When the lights came on I could see her more clearly. She looked awful, but what scared me were her eyes. Her magenta eyes were a darker shade now, her pupils were instead of round, they were like a cat's pupil. I only realized then that her eyes were cat eyes themselves. Even her hair was a darker white almost like a grey. It was a horrible sight. Just then I heard laughing, that person came into hers and my view, it was Slade. He tightened her restraints.

"Aw, does that hurt the poor kitty?", he asked. She just hissed at him and began to fight the restraints. I tried to speak again but failed. She screamed as someone hit her with a rock. A voice came from the darkness.

It said,"You can't escape, and your friends won't save you. Are you happy to see your best friend suffer?" I realized then I couldn't speak because my throat hurt from screaming. One of Slade's men cut my with a knife. I screamed until I couldn't anymore. Lisa cried and pleaded for them to stop torturing and hurting me.

The voice said,"Do you want to make her suffering stop? Do you want this to end?"

She screamed,"YESS!!!!!!! JUST STOP.....HURTING....RIVER! I'll do anything but please stop hurting her." She screamed over her own sobbing and she said it ten times before she stoped.

The FCP director came out and said,"Good. It's good you want us to stop. This is exactly how she screamed when we were experimenting on her mother and her big brother."

I tried to kick him but my own hands and feet were bound. I was bound to a chair just like Lisa. She cursed at him in a language which was I think Japanese or Latin.

I screamed again from the pain of another cut. They stabbed my leg and I let out a blood curdling scream.

Nightmare ends

I woke up screaming, and Andrew ran in to see what was the matter. He pulled me into a hug and I cried while hugging him back. He stroked my head trying to calm me down.

"Shhhh...", he said, "River you need to calm down and tell me what happened. Shhh.....It's ok you're alright, just calm down and tell me what happened."

I stopped crying, and I said,"I had a nightmare and Lisa was there and the FCP were working with Slade and he had an apprentice. It was so scary Andrew, I was so scared." I hugged him. He kissed me on the forehead, and hugged me back.

He said,"River it was just a nightmare, it wasn't real. Holy cow, how did you get a cut the size of a gash on your arm?"

I looked at my arm, and the cut from my dream was on my arm now.

I replied,"I don't know how it got there. I swear to you I'm not lying. I really don't know how it got there."

He dragged me to the infirmary to patch me up. He disinfected the wound and wrapped it up. He said we would watch a movie on the couch since everyone else was out fighting. I couldn't get the cut off my mind, it was from my dream and it was on my arm in real life. It was weird I just went to fall asleep on the couch. Andrew and I were watching a movie when Cy called for backup. Andrew ran out telling me to stay put. I stayed but fell asleep on the couch. This time no nightmares, it was relaxing. I couldn't wrap my head about how the cut appeared on my arm. It plagued my thoughts and I fell into a deeper sleep.
