Chapter 22

River pov

I can't sleep there's so many things running through my mind. I thought, I'm just gonna go for a short run. No one will know I was ever gone. Or at least I think no one will.

I leave a note just in case someone wakes up early or I don't make it back in time for breakfast. I notice Kanin in the corner of the living room AWAKE?! I walk up to him.

"Can't sleep?",he said. I nodded. "Thought so. Ok then let's go for a jog. It'll help."

"I was planning to anyway. So I'm guessing you wanna come?", I ask.

"Yes I would like to accompany you, please." he said.

"Ok fine you can come but don't try to double cross me cause I can hurt you.", I said. He nodded.

We headed out on our jog. I tried to talk to him about why he had that gun with him in the first place. He stopped and I did as well.

"Let's take a break.", Kanin said.

"Um... Kanin?", I said

"Yes River."

"I was wondering why you carry that gun with you. Isn't dangerous to carry something like that on you? I mean it can kill you."

He sighed. "Do you really want to know?"

"Yes.", I insisted.

"I carry it on me to remind myself that I'm in control. The cat inside me is a monster. It was trained to kill. The FCP's director trained me and my sister how to be killing machines. That's what they wanted. They wanted to have perfect soldier that will follow simple orders. I refused to let my sister and myself follow their orders. But they had ways to make us into the monsters they want. Torture. They use torture to do it. That's why I carry this gun with me." He took out the gun that could kill him. I tried to take it from him but he held out the firing pin out to me and gave it to me. He told me to hold on to it and he'd tell me if he needed it. I agreed and put it in my pocket.

Kanin pov

She put the firing pin in her pocket. I smiled and started jogging back to the tower. She followed me knowing where I was going. When we got back Robin was up and he looked furious. This wasn't surprising since we left a note telling him we were going for a jog.

"Where have you two been? Cy has been out looking for you.", Robin asked still furious.

I replied, "We just went for a short jog. It's ok Robin nothing happened to River."

"It's not her I'm really worried about. It's you.", he said. That aroused my anger a bit. I walked calmly down the hall to my sister's room and layed down on her couch. I let my eyes slide shut and fall asleep. I hear a scream and bolt up. I run to the source and the entire team is knocked out. Lisa, River, and that Andrew kid were gone. Cy was at least conscious.

"Cy, what happened? Where's River, Lisa, and Andrew?", I asked.

"I don't know some of Slade's men came and took them. That's all I know.", he replied.

"Ok we all need a good nights rest. We'll leave in the morning at 9:00. I'll help you get everyone in bed." I said.

We got everyone in bed. I decided to sleep in Lisa's bed. It was weird but I owe it to her. She hates when her bed isn't slept in. I close my eyes again and hope she's ok. With that I fall asleep.
