"And in the end, we were all just humans....drunk on the idea that love, only love could heal our brokenness."

.............................................

Just like that, Gabriel and Abigail became fast friends. He became someone to rely on for her. When she was feeling down i the slumps again, he could find a way to cheer her up, make her laugh again.

It was the first game of the season. Gryffindor against Slytherin. Both sides were tense, agitated, excited. Both desperately wanted to beat the other. Gabriel gathered his team around.

"We're going to crush those fuckin' Slytherins! This is our year. This year, we'll have our house cup. This is it, lads. Are you ready?" He yelled.

"yes!" A unison of voices cried in return.

He nodded, excited for the game. He looks at Abigail.

"Be careful out there. Don't die again, Wool."

"I won't, Captain." She smiled. Inside, her nerves were tearing her apart. But she tried to keep her composure for the sake of morale.

He pats her shoulders. "Deep breaths, kid. Deep, Deep breathes. Don't fall off the broom. Good luck."

She rolled her eyes, and blew him an sarcastic kiss.

They were off. The Slytherins tailed abigail closely. Avery was still as good a seeker as ever, always on her tails, watching her every move.

The Gryffindors were neck to neck with the Slytherins. The snitch was still nowhere to be seen. Abigail scoured the grounds for it. Suddenly, she spotted it, lingering near the teachers tent. She locked eyes with Avery, who also saw it. The fight was final. They both dove at neck breaking speeds to reach it first.

She could touch it's wings. But it fluttered out of her hands. Avery saw the opportunity and reached for it again. They were side by side, both vying for the snitch. There were roars coming in from both sides of the stadium. The people were afraid to blink an eye. If they blinked, they might miss the next critical move.

Hogwarts held its breath, as Abigail and Avery both reached for the golden snitch. Avery saw the opportunity. He moved closer to her, and knocked her away. She became unstable on the broom. Her leg was already injured at practice. She slipped, and in that split second, Avery grabbed the fluttering snitch. He puts his arms into the air. The Slytherins erupt into loud cheers.

Gabriel screamed in frustration, throwing his helmet onto the field.

Abigail felt like crap. She had let her team down. She let her house down. She almost had it, but missed it by a millisecond.

"You had it in your hands. How the fuck-how could-How could you lose it? How could you let them win like that Wool!" Gabriel yelled after the game, frustrated.

Abigail looked at the anger and disappointment on his face. She bursted into tears, suddenly feeling all the weight of failure crash onto her thin shoulders.

He puts his head into his hands.

"Oh shit. Oh shit...don't cry, I didn't-I didn't mean it like that..." He said, trying to comfort her, not knowing how to deal with a crying girl.

"I-I think I know what you meant perfectly." She said, turning away from him, burying her face in her hands.

"Oh Abigail. Look, I'm sorry, okay? I was angry. I shouldn't take it out on you, its not your-"

"It is my fault! I'm a lousy seeker, aren't I?" She sobbed. She felt like a complete, utter failure. She had one single job. And she completely blew it. She cost her house the victory they had so wanted. They must all hate her now.
