............

Abigail opens the door, and immediately feels the veil of tension in the air. For the past few months, she felt a certain distance from Cassie, but she thought it was a simple rift due to their busy schedules, something that will be easily remedied by spending time together and having a heart-to-heart talk in the middle of the night like they used to do.

but now, after hearing what Sam has said, she understood that the distance was much, much further than she ever imagined.

she felt a heavy, unmistakable sense of responsibility.

"Cass..." she called out, sadness echoing in her voice. Cassie lifted her head, her lips carved into a cruel smile.

"So he told you." She said quietly. She knew that Sam couldn't keep this secret for long. "I've been waiting for you, Abigail."

"Why didn't you tell me? I-If i had know, Cass....I would never...never mind. It's all my fault, anyhow." Abigail sighed, tears coming to her eyes.

Cassie turned to face her former best friend. "You fucked up, Abigail."

"I-I know."

"Do you know what I've been through? Do you know what it's like to be betrayed by the people you love the most, Abi?" She whispered mockingly the pet name she once had for her friend. "Do you know what it's like to be all alone in a cold hospital bed, holding the corpse of you won child in your hands? Do you know what it's like to see, the next day, you love holding on to your best friend?" She laughs, shaking her head. "Of course, you don't. because you so fucking precious, a damsel in distress, always having prince charming rescue you."

"Cass.....I'm so sorry. I-I...." Abigail could not find the words to say in her throat. She knew that all  apologies at this point were pointless. She saw the look in Cassie's cold eyes, and knew that the girl had changed. "I wish I could take it all back, I wish-" She sobbed, looking into Cassie's frozen eyes. Her eyes had lost the gleam, the spark that was once there.

Her eyes reminded Abigail of Tom Riddle's vengeance.

"Oh God..." Abigail cried, unable to look into those eyes anymore.

"Be sorry, Abigail. But nothing you can do now will remedy what you have done to me. Don't you just love to be the good person? Let me tell you right now, that you're not. You're not a good person now, and you never have been. Your kindness is and always has been, only a facade."

"Thats not true..."

Cassie laughs, and stands up. "You're just a crazy bitch going after someone who will never, ever love you. You think I don't know, Abigail? I see the way that you look at him. You never loved Gabriel. You never have. All you've done is use him. Why do you even do this, to spite me? To show how much better you are?"

"Of course not! I-"

"Save your words please. I don't want to hear you talk anymore, you're disgusting. Just understand this, Tom Riddle will never love you. You are nothing to him, even after all you've done, Abigail. He played with you, and now he's done, he'll throw you away just like the rest of them. And soon, soon very soon, Gabriel will finally see you for what you really are: a whore. Your mother was one, and so are you."

"Cass, please" Abigail sobbed, her heart throbbing with pain. Cassie knew how to hurt her best.

"Don't fucking call me that! You have no right. You fucking ruined my life. You took everything from me.  But I must thank you, because of you, I'm strong now. I see the world as it actually is: a fucking hellhole, where you either step on people, or be stepped on."

"Thats not true. It's not too late, Cass. Even if you don't forgive me, that's okay. I don't expect your forgiveness. But please, please, for the love of Merlin, don't do this to yourself."

"But please, please" Cassie mocked. "Even now, you still pretend to be a saint. You're no saint, and you know it. How many lives have you ruined? Mine, Gabriel's...His mother died right after you visited. Maybe you're just bad luck...or maybe there was foul play...only God knows what you have done. You're a cold bitch, Abigail. You have no heart. Stop pretending, please, it's so disgusting." Cassie said, her face close to Abigail's tear-streaked one, overpowering her small frame. Abigail collapsed, sobbing to the floor.

"Please...thats not true...." Abigail begged. Cassie was playing with her guilt and bit by bit, reinforcing her worst nightmare. Now, Abigail began to believe her, shivering on the floor. Her mind went back to all the wrong she has done, the images flashing in her mind, paralyzing her with their bloody, red-tinged glare.

She covered Myrtle's death, even though it happened right in front of her eyes. She allowed the poor boy Hagrid to be expelled. She betrayed utterly her best friend and turned Cassie into a demented version of the formerly bubbly girl. She destroyed the Delacriux family, and the life of the boy who loved her the most. She couldn't even count on her fingers anymore the people Tom Riddle has killed. Yet she still helped him, protected him, covered for him, and convinced herself that all of that was somehow justified.

She told herself that now, she must go with Gabriel and love him to make up for her wrongs. That she must abandon Tom Riddle, because sh can never changed him.

But deep down, she knew that she was lying to herself and the world, because in her dreams, she still saw Tom Riddle's beautiful, horrible face, staring at her, charming her into the dark abyss of his world with his serpent-like tongue and siren-song words.

Cassie bends down, so that her lips were almost touching Abigail's ears. "To return the favor, Abi, I slept with.... you know who. He was very, very good, darling. " Cassie uttered a dramatic, taunting moan.

"Now I understand why you like him so much. If it weren't for Gabe, I would've gone for him myself." She whispered, the smile of victory on her face.

Abigail sat there on the floor, tears on her cheeks, the words locked permanently in her throat.

Cassie opened the heavy dorm door, walked out, and never looked back.
