Y/N is nowhere to be found. The last time I saw her was when she told me she'd be over the pen stall. I have been distracted by the all beautiful items myself that I haven't realized I lost her until I came to the fourth booth.
Guilty, I search the market for a familiar gray form. But so far, no luck. I've tried asking the seller she went to, but he simply shook his head before shifting his attention to a new customer. I rake my head for where she could go. Home, apparently, is most likely the only choice.
Along my way back though, surprisingly enough as if my fate, I see the Mayor. He is, as usual, bright and handsome as ever. People gather around him, taking turns to exchange some words with him while some girls crave for his attention from afar through longed gazes.
I myself want to join the advancing group. But with the knowledge of what he did to Y/N, I can't muster a step toward him. Driving my attention back, I walk home.
The first thing I hear when I get close to my house is the sound of my dog barking. And he's not just barking in the yard, where he should be, but barking as he runs to me.
"Momo!" I exclaim, bending down to ruffle his ears. He attempts to jump on me several times and bites my hand a little too hard in his questionable eagerness. "Go back in," I urge him with my knee. Then he yanks the hem of my kimono with his teeth. "Hey!"
Momo ducks away before I can swat him off. The dog barks once more and runs to the village's back. Just then, a torrent of wind tears through the trees, nearly sweeping me off balance. Coming with the gust is a loud rumble that reminds me of machines.
I shield my eyes from the dust swirling. Something big moves at the corner of my eye.
Is that a spaceship?
I gape at it, not believing what I'm seeing here, as the ship sets off into the air, higher and higher until it disappears above the first layer of clouds. The thought of Momo snaps me out of it. I quickly catch up to him.
The dog is barking to the sky, and when he sees me he runs around a spot on the ground. I step to where he is. And gasp.
Fresh blood pools over the area Momo found. A disturbing smell wafts to my nostrils. I force my eyes away from the sickening sight and turn to my dog.
I realize I'm forgetting something.
Refusing to believe it, I storm back to the house and throw the door aside. "Y/N!" I shout, eyes darting around the room before stomping to the backyard. "Y/N!"
Silence meets my call.
I want to scream. It's can't be. But who would let Momo out if it wasn't her? What if someone came to abduct her while she was waiting for me and Momo followed and witnessed whatever happened? Or maybe she wasn't not home in the first place.
Maybe she's now still at the market, marveling at the fake jewels just as I had. Maybe that was something's blood. A rat's maybe?
I drop to the ground. I should be feeling relieved because the latter case is what I believe. What I want to believe. So what are these tears pouring out of my eyes for?
I sob to my hands. Even the dog sits quietly aside, as if fully understanding the situation. My mind thinks of the spaceship now sailing over the atmosphere. And with it brings the girl who's becoming more of a sister to me, far far away to an unknown dangerous land.
Why won't any of them leave her alone already...
Damn it all!
