That girl.
I head to the command room, intending to get some words with master Utsuro. For the first time, rage washes all over my body as I recall of his preposterous decision.
I've been directly working under the leader for sometime now, after Oboro was killed. And all under the intention to obtain the leadership of the Yatagarasu when I earn enough of his trust. I thought bringing him the girl would satisfy just that. But no.
She had to steal everything away from me. Had to ruin all of my plans I intend to conduct ever since I saw her on the Kiheitai ship during the last assault. And of course, I was one of the fewest survivors, barely escaped by retreating into the forest.
"Hey, Komu," one of the operating members greets as I enter the room. "I've been wanting to find you. There's something master Utsuro asked me to remind you of."
All thoughts clear. "What is it?" I move to stand beside him.
"He said something about training..." Despite the urge to leap of the room and find the leader, I wait as he tires to recall. "He told me that even a fallen butterfly proves to be useful if you properly train it." Brows narrowed, he asks, "Do you know what he meant?"
My hands forming fists as I keep any particular emotion from my voice. "I might have a guest."
"What was he meaning?"
"Nothing you should mind about. And do you know where he currently is?"
He seems to shrug it off and says, "No, he just vanished after telling me that."
"Alright." I turn around and begin to walk away.
"Wait," the guy says. "I heard that you've captured a girl seen on the enemy's ship. Is that true?"
I flicker a glance around the room before saying, "Perhaps." Then I leave without hearing his response.
I storm through the corridor, mind unable to clear of the very thought to strangle the girl.
To think he would let a mere, pathetic girl like her to take over his lead, it sickens me. And to think that I'll be the one who'll train her then forced to follow her around like a dog.
I jab my fist to the wall, too distracted to even feel pain. What hits me the most is the fact that he gave her his blood. That's very unfortunate, although I can't stop picturing me slowly bringing a sword through her heart as I amuse at her face. But she won't die even if I do that now.
And the leader's orders are absolute.
I manage to find an extra sword within a room. As much as I hate it, I grip the weapon and head to where the girl is being kept. Since I can't deny his orders, I might as well train with real swords.
After all, I'm sure a few scratches won't do her much harm.
Inside the room, at the corner is the girl crouched to her knees. She eyes me warily when I enter.
"What do you want?" she asks, looking at me like I'm some kind of beast. Though if so, I'm afraid it's the contradict.
I ignore her comment and cast her a blank look before throwing the sword in her direction. She flinches when the blade clanks with the metal ground. Then her gaze flickers to me, confused.
"You heard the leader, I will be your trainer from today onward," I state, disinterest clouds over my tone. "So make sure to behave and quietly learn. I'm not a good tester of patience."
She studies me with cautious eyes before they land on the floor. "I'm not doing any training," she mumbles.
"You are and you will. And now you will pick up that sword and stand," I say through gritted teeth.
While not bothering to move as she remains crouched like a wretch, my composure slips and I leap to grab her wrist, dragging her upright. "Don't test me girl. You best do as I say or lost your precious time thinking about your passionate love ideal," I snarl.
Her shock expression recovers to vexation. "Let go of me," she demands. Then snatches her hand away. "I'm not following anybody's order."
"Unless you want master Utsuro to know about what truly happened." At her blank expression I continue, "You think that I don't know that you've almost died? I saw everything back to when that man buried you."
Her eyes widen a fraction, but she quickly recovers. "So?"
"So I think the master would be amazed to find the person who saved and helped you then. In the village."
"You don't know who it is." Her remark sounds foolish to my ears.
"You think I'd care for a few more burning insects if I know my target is within them?" Her look is very satisfying that I can't help but amuse at it. "Perhaps if they all burn, things will flow more smoothly."
"You won't dare." I hear fear emerging from her tone.
"Oh, will I? Keep in mind of what situation you're in, girl." I match her glare with mine. "You're a stray witch with a near immortality chasing behind your throat."
The girl's features bitters at my mention and tears her gaze away, walking to the window. After a dull pause, she utters, "Is there anyway I can fix this?" She looks down at both of her hands.
"I'm not your solution finder nor do I intend to be," I flatly state. "But as an advise, I suggest you do as you're told. That person doesn't deal with disobedience very favorably."
A small, sour laugh escapes through her breath. "I got captured, stabbed almost to death again, woke to find myself with blood of an immortal. And now, I'm to train to kill the person I have no grudge against or the people around me pay for it." She turns to me. "Does your leader deal ever with anything favorably?"
"You brought this unto yourself."
"I doubt I'll be here without your help." My hand twitches at her sarcasm.
"And you," I growl, "should be glad you're still standing."
I can see a smile is close to spread on her face. "Too bad things didn't go as you want."
I find the hilt of my blade and unsheathe it. "Don't mock me." I sprint to her, and bring the blade to her neck. "I told you I'm not a good tester of patience."
She doesn't move, her eyes unreadable. "Pick up that sword," I order, flickering a glance at the blade on the floor. And I let the sharp edge of my sword touch her skin.
"Make your move," she says. "Threats aside, there's no point in training me."
I grip the hilt, tempted to server her head. "Getting cocky, aren't we?" The corner of my lips curl.
I tighten my grasp before swinging it across.
