I make haste along the hallway, not sparing anyone with glances as I reach my room. Matako knows how to quietly follow behind and shut the door once we're in.
I stay with my back facing her while her gaze inspects me like I carry some disease. This is why I want to leave as soon as possible. Because I know, her mouth doesn't know when to shut when appropriate. It only does when it needs to.
I force down the effort to flip around at glare at her and instead try to calm my rapid heart.
After a short silence, I decide to break stillness. "Well? Don't you have so many things to say?" I mimic the look I always see Utsuro having and the way Matako reacts shows that I somehow succeeded. "Why not spit everything out now?"
"So your wound really disappeared..." she trails as if not believing what she herself accused of me.
Well, accuse might not be right word. "They didn't disappeared, they healed." I make sure to enunciate the difference.
"But that's not possible. How could wounds like that heal..."
My lips curl into a smile. "You saw what's truth."
She keeps staring at me, unmoving. "I shot you straight to your hea-"
"It's going to take more than two bullets to kill me, girl," I cut off with disdain. "Maybe next time, you should try cutting of my head instead. But oh, that's too bad since your beloved captain needs me."
The taunt seems to reach deaf ears as she goes on with her queries. "T-That's why you seem so different from before. Is it because of that freak-like ability?"
"So glad that you take notice," I will myself to mock.
Her shock expression shifts to one of wariness as she asks, "Who are you really? How did you ended like this?"
What am I? "I too am curious. And it's so surprising that you take interest in me." I take a step toward her and attempt to change the subject. "So now what? Are you planning to tell him and everyone that?"
Something flashes across her face before the wariness vanishes, and replaced by a what looks like a forced smug. "Do you care what Shinsuke-sama thinks of you now? Maybe he'll just kick you out of the ship once he learns of this."
"No." The word sounds raw. "And he's more than welcome to do that. After all, isn't leaving what I'm foremost asking for?"
A childish frown creeps over her features. "Getting cocky, aren't we?"
I stop at a distance from her as her hand moves to her side. Before I can brace myself, she holds up her gun and fires.
I can feel the bullet as it thunders through my chest, stopping a beat of my heart. A startled cry gets loose from me as I stagger back. I look wide-eyed down to the blood that's starting to soak through my white kimono. Then a second later, my bewilderment takes on Matako.
I drop my hands back down as I eye her in disinterest. The wounded flesh is beginning to quickly heal, though I shudder at the sudden pain when receiving it.
"So it's really true," confirms Matako, placing the gun back. "You are a freak."
I force out a slight smile. "You finally believe it."
She returns no smile in turn as disgust eats all her already sullen face. "Grab her!" she barks, though I don't know to who.
A second later, four men storm into the room and immediately surround me.
