Only when we return back to the ship do I learn that on each of our weapons, there's some kind of tracking device placed somewhere on them. And the crew is using that to track where the man Komu dispatched has now head to.
I stand idly before the gigantic screen that shows the map of Kyoto. A red dot is slowly moving through the line acting as a street, as it heads east.
"Follow them," Komu orders to the operating crew.
The ship begins to move as my thought starts to race. Once he reaches where he's going, we'll have to encounter. To fight. I clench my fists at the image. No matter how I try to deny, the reality would eventually leek in and drown me.
The longer in pursue, the more dread blooms at the possible possibilities of things that might happen and it fills in my mind. And one thing whispers loudest of all.
There's no way Shinsuke doesn't know he's being followed. If he's heading back to his ship, then the more reason he'd be cautious. Despite his ruthlessness, he won't want his plans interrupted.
Or maybe it's not that he doesn't know.
What if he chose to be followed...
"Vice-captain, he stopped," someone says, jarring my thoughts.
I bring my focus back to the screen and see that the red point has stopped. And so has the ship.
Swallowing, I turn to Komu. He eyes the screen intensively, deep in thoughts. And without noticing me, he says, "Follow up ahead. If he stops then that means the rebel has reached somewhere he can't trespass." His eyes then flicker to me. "Let's try and hold our excitement, shall we?"
I glare at him before turning away. With the screen shut off, the night view of the city below becomes clear. Something ascends up the air in the distance. And as we move closer, the silhouette shifts into the shape of a...ship.
My stomach churns while with sheer tension, Komu says, "Got them." He walks forward to the operating crew and directs them with orders. "Get closer and attack."
They do as he demands, closing off the distance and reach within a close range. But they seem reluctant about the latter order.
"What are you waiting for? Did you not hear what I said?" Komu growls.
One of them turns to him and hesitatingly says, "Our apologies, but,"-his eyes darting between me and his murderous vice-leader-"we can only attack on the leader's orders."
"What?" Komu snarls, making them flinch. I have an urge to dash away from this room.
"M-Master Utsuro informed us that any further conduct will be based on what the leader tells us. And we are to act based on her orders," the man says.
I forget to breathe by when he finishes. For one cold blooded moment, a sudden surge of hate courses through me. Hate for the immortal for what he has forced down on me. But now, I find myself trembling under all of the gazes of the entire ship's crew.
Utsuro wants me to lead. He wants me to lead these people to board Shinsuke's ship and kill him.
I claw at the thought. Taking a step back, I shake my head in vain. "No..." I trail, finding my voice. "I won't-"
"I think the master would be amazed to find the person who saved and helped you back then."
The memory stops me cold. My wild eyes travel to Komu and I too flinch under his gaze. Under what it is implying. I look pass him to the people then to the ship before us that hangs in the air. I exhale a shuddering breath.
