i needed something-something more than this.
pain is inevitable
but did you have to have
such a sweet face
for me to fall
for?though my hands have gnarled
and i can't sing like i used to
it's still the same honeysuckle blur
passed around, an appetite
i can recognize
in my sister. in my brother.
pouring hearts into cake tins
the batter tastes like chalk
and desperation
but it's required to feel this love
everyone keeps harassing us about
i found it in your too-sweet face
the others will find it
elsewhere.and darling,
i needed you.
