As you grow older you realise that life isn't as easy as you used to think.
You learn this through the hard way by experiencing it.
You realise that you have to work to achieve things and that you have to deal with situations in a more mature manner.
Like in friendships.
At first you're all childish and silly and taking things as a joke.
And then the arguments happen and the fights.
And you can't just act like a child and stop talking to your friends or ignoring them.
You have to be mature about it and talk it through and sort out your differences.
So I guess you grow up along the way.
