Lindsey came home with her just like she had wanted him to. He was determined to prove to her that his new child would not change their relationship. He knew it killed her that he would be a father and she wouldn't be the mother of that child. There was nothing he could do about that now. They would take things as they came and figure out everything together. It was tense. Stevie was happy that he was with her now, but she was terrified that once his child was here Lindsey would choose the baby's mother. Kristen. Ugh she couldn't even think about that now. She was worried that she wouldn't be the supportive partner and "step-mother" that Lindsey would want her to be. She could not bring herself to be excited about this. She was trying, and maybe that would change as the time got closer, but all she could be now was fake happy for Lindsey. "Steph? Did you hear anything I said?" Lindsey asked with slight irritation in his voice. She was getting harder to reach by the day. "Uh, yeah, sorry Linds, my mind was just somewhere else. You have my full attention now," she said apologetically with a sincere smiled on her face. "What I was saying is that I've got to talk to Kristen, to get a game plan here, how we're going to do things. I'm not sure what we want to do so I just wanted to get things figured out on our end so that we know what we want." Stevie was surprised. This was kind of his deal. She would support whatever he wanted. The only thing she didn't want was him spending a lot of time with Kristen alone. She didn't trust Kristen, she hadn't given up on getting Lindsey back and Stevie was not going to lose him now, but that wasn't something she could say to Lindsey. "Mmm, Linds, I just want to do whatever you want. This is your child and I just want to support you in whatever you decide." Lindsey wanted Stevie to feel included. She was going to be around his child a lot and as she was going to eventually be his wife he felt she shouldn't be distanced from this. "Stevie, why don't you come with me to meet Kristen? You have a say here too, and I would feel better if we took this on as a team." Stevie really didn't want any part of that. She wasn't sure if she could hide her disdain of Kristen in person. Ugh that little bitch. "Are you sure that is a good idea Lindsey? I'm not really sure if Kristen would feel comfortable about that either." Lindsey looked a little hurt. "Please Stevie? It would really mean a lot if you came to do this with me. Kristen is going to have to get used to you being around. You're going to be my wife and you will be a part of my child's life as well." Stevie smiled. It would mean a lot to him, and she liked the sound of being his wife. They hadn't gotten officially engaged but they talked about getting married all the time. She was hoping it would be official soon. "Okay Lindsey, I'll go." Lindsey grinned and said, "Well Miss Nicks we have a meeting later this evening, but for now, I have some other plans for you." Stevie laughed her dirty laugh that Lindsey loved so much as he scooped her up and ran her up the stairs, throwing her clothes off on the way up.
Stevie followed Lindsey into the restaurant, seeing Kristen sitting alone at a table in the back. Kristen beamed as she saw Lindsey, but the smile quickly left her face as she saw Stevie. Stevie smiled to herself and thought Not going to get that alone time with him that you were hoping for you conniving little bitch. Stevie knew she shouldn't think like that, but she had Kristen's number and she wasn't going to let her get Lindsey that easily. "Hello Kristen", Lindsey said politely as he and Stevie took their seats. He could tell Kristen wasn't happy that Stevie was there, but Stevie was part of the package and she would have to deal with it. "Oh hi Lindsey" she replied happily. The tone of her voice changed, "And Stevie". Stevie couldn't care less if Kristen greeted her kindly or not. "Hi Kristen!" Stevie said so sweetly. She enjoyed this. Seeing Kristen squirm. She deserved it after the shit she purposely put Stevie through. "So Kristen, let's just figure this all out. I want to be a father to our child..." Lindsey started. "Son, our son." Kristen quickly corrected. "It's a boy? Wow! That's great. I'm going to have a son!" Lindsey was beaming. Stevie smiled at him but was falling apart. She needed to get through this. It was just hard to act like things were going to be ok when Lindsey was so excitedly talking to Kristen about "their" child. She shouldn't have come. This had been a bad idea. "But what I was saying was that I want to be really hands on. I know I'll be recording and touring some, but I want to be very present. Maybe as he gets older he could come stay with us some, and I'll come to him wherever until he's old enough to be away from you." He smiled at Stevie imagining her caring for his son at their home. It was a nice picture to him. "Well Lindsey, I agree, I want you to be very involved with our son (emphasising "our son" for Stevie's benefit), but where will he being staying? Your home or Stevie's home?" Lindsey was a little suprised by the question, but answered honestly. "Kristen, as you know I do have my own house, but we live at Stevie's home and that is where he will come when he is with me." Kristen didn't like the sound of "we live" and went for a sore spot. "Lindsey, I'm not sure if I can allow my son to stay at her house." Stevie was angry. "What the fuck is that supposed to mean exactly, Kristen?" she spat her name out so disgustedly like the sound of it in her mouth was appalling to her. Lindsey was panicking, this was not going well. "Well Stevie, it's not exactly a secret that you are a cocaine addict, addicted to prescription pills, and have a problem with alcohol. I don't really think that you are a suitable person to be around my son." Kristen thought that would work If Lindsey wanted to see his son, he would have to do it without Stevie. She wasn't going to let her pretend to be a mother with her son, especially when she and Lindsey could be a family. She expected to see a confused or a panicked look on Lindsey's face, afraid that he wouldn't get to see his son. Instead, she was surprised to see Lindsey alternating between angry looks at Kristen and soft, compassionate looks to Stevie who looked to be near tears. Kristen knew it was a low blow but she was going to say and do whatever she needed to get Lindsey away from Stevie. Lindsey finally spoke, "Kristen, it is true that Stevie had some issues with cocaine in the past. She hasn't touched it in over 10 years, she kicked the Klonopin as well and has never had and issue with alcohol. You're not going to pull things from her past out of your ass to keep my son away from me or Stevie. You need to know that Stevie isn't going anywhere and you need to get used to it." Kristen didn't like his tone and she didn't have to let her son around his bimbo girlfriend and she let him know. "Kristen you need to get really comfortable with Stevie being around. It's not really any of your business, but as you won't seem to drop this, I will be marrying Stevie soon. You can't keep me or my future wife away from the baby. This conversation isn't going anywhere. Stevie, we need to leave. Kristen if you need anything you can contact me and I will try to do what I can. I will be out of town for awhile, which shouldn't be an issue as we have a couple more months until the baby is here." He reached out his hand to help Stevie up and wrapped his arms around her as the walked out the door leaving a stunned Kristen behind. As they got out to the car Stevie spoke, "Lindsey, God, I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have snapped like that. I guess I really shouldn't come again. And by the way where are you going?" Lindsey sighed. It wasn't Stevie's fault, but this night had been an absolute disaster. "It's ok baby. She said what she did to get hurt you, and to try to exercise some control over me. It's not going to happen," he smiled at her reassuring her. "I will take her to court if I have to. A court will never find us unfit to have the child at our home. She won't win this. And the question is where are we going? And we are going on vacation. After tonight we need one." Lindsey seemed so confident, so sure. Stevie wasn't so sure.
