Stop Dragging My Heart Around

Sometimes it seemed like the moments lasted forever. Sometimes she thought that she had blinked and a month had gone by. Stevie couldn't deny the fact that the girls were almost 4 months old, so even when it felt like just a moment had gone by she looked into their little faces and saw how much they had grown. She often thought about the saying "Time flies when you're having fun." Even in the hardest moments when she was completely exhausted and they had all 4 children and she wondered how she would make it, her heart had never been more full. Stevie wasn't sure that anything could replace the feeling of having a family. Sure, Stevie had a family, but this family she had created. This family she thought she would never have.

Lindsey woke up early and looked around the room and listened for the cry of a baby. That was usually what woke him up these days. After a couple of minutes he decided he must not have heard anything and turned to his side. He looked over at the love of his life sleeping peacefully to his right. Her blonde hair lay almost perfectly above her head and her face was was smooth and restful. He was glad that she was sleeping, he could tell she had been very tired lately, but she never complained. Lindsey knew she would be a fantastic mom and had been right on that account for sure, but even with his expectations being so high Stevie exceeded them yet again. He couldn't believe just how much of a natural she was. The girls adored her, Will and Leelee adored her, and of course, he did as well. They were truly partners in every sense of the word and he couldn't wait until they could actually be married. 60 days until his divorce was final.

Stevie awoke to the sound of a crying baby. She opened her eyes and looked over to Lindsey's side of the bed and it was empty. She looked over at the clock and was surprised that it said 9:00. She hadn't gotten to sleep that long in awhile. She walked towards the hallway and heard the shower running and walked into the nursery. "Good morning angels!' she said happily to the twins. Sara laid back in her crib looking just as content as ever while Scarlett cried. "Oh goodness Scarlett! Are you hungry this morning baby? You both slept in so long this morning." Stevie said to the baby while she sat down to feed her. While she ate, Stevie talked to her, sang to her, and just watched her little facial expressions. Both girls were really developing personalities and Stevie loved it. She changed Scarlett's diaper and dressed her for the day before laying her down for her tummy time. While Scarlett played, Stevie repeated the routine with Sara. Sara had such a sweet quiet personality while Scarlett was much more of a diva and very demanding. Stevie talked to them about it and laughed as she watched those personalities on display. "Scarlett you are such a little diva!" she laughed. "Wonder who she gets that from?" a voice said from the doorway. How long had Lindsey been there? "Definitely you my love. She got your eyes and she got your personality!" Stevie told him. They laughed together and took the girls downstairs so they could have breakfast. This was the new routine of their lives, and they loved it.

"Stevie, you do remember that you have the meeting with the label at 2:00 today, right?" Karen asked while pouring herself a cup of coffee. Stevie sighed, "Yes, I know. It's not something we can put off?" she asked. Karen smiled sympathetically, "No, I'm sorry Stevie, I've rescheduled it three times. They're not going to be put off anymore." she answered. "I know, I know. I just know what they want and I'm not ready for this yet. All I've ever wanted is this family and I've never been happier. I don't want to change this." Stevie said while holding Sara tighter to her. "Stevie, you're under contract. We don't really have a choice right now. The album's done. They're going to want to put it out and for you to at least start doing press. Not to mention a tour." Karen told her realistically. She looked over at Stevie who was seemingly clinging to poor Sara for dear life. She felt terrible for her but she wasn't sure there was a way out of it. "Stevie what's wrong?" Lindsey asked seeing her expression as he walked into the room. "I have a meeting with the label in a few hours." she answered dejectedly. Lindsey knew what that meant and he felt a wave of sadness come over him, too. He would have to be stronger for Stevie though, he knew how hard this would be for her. "Stevie baby, don't get all worked up about this right now. You don't know anything for sure. Either way, we'll be a team through all this. Don't worry, nothing is going to change us." he said smiling. "Thanks honey, I love you." she said before handing him Sara and walking up the stairs. She had to get ready and deal with what was to come.
