At the end of the day, I walked outside and saw Baylee and Spinner sitting in the car. I didn’t understand why Baylee was in the car because she said she was going to be working late.
“Baylee, I thought you were working late.” I said as I got into the car.
“I thought so too, but the project was easy.” Said Baylee. Spinner drove away from the school like a mad man because he’s not the best driver. He failed his driver’s test three times for speeding and cutting people off.
“How much did you make?” Asked Spinner. Baylee took out the cash from her back pocket and started counting.
“Almost three hundred dollars.” Said Baylee.
“Nice.” I said wishing I had that kind of money. Spinner gave an annoyed look.
“Your two hundred short, rents due tonight.” Said Spinner. Baylee looked shocked.
“Shit, guys what should I do?” asked Baylee panicked. Baylee also works at a tattoo parlor downtown.
“Well how much did you make with tattoos?” I asked. Baylee takes out another load of cash and starts counting.
“Get an actual job.” Snapped Spinner.
“One hundred eighty. How much did you make this month, Spinner?” Said Baylee.
“Not a lot. I might get another job to help out.” Said Spinner. I felt bad for them, they were barely making it by. Spinner took a cigarette out of his pocket and Baylee lit it. We pulled into the parking lot and headed inside the apartment building to their apartment. It was strangely quiet, I thought about starting some conversation.
“Do you guys have any plans for tonight?” I asked remembering its Valentine’s Day.
“Uh... I might go out with some girl who I met at the shop today.” Said Spinner. I was surprised that Spinner would have a date, he only ever dated one girl named Emily Morris. She went to school with us until her dad found out she was dating Spinner, then he sent her off to an all girl’s boarding school. We all sat on the broken old couch in the living room.
“I’m having dinner with a few men who are interested in some of my pieces. Rose, what do you have going on?” Said Baylee. That’s typical for Baylee, usually when people are interested in her pieces. She does good business. Every year for Valentine’s Day, I have to babysit Liz.
“Babysitting.” I said. Baylee lit a cigarette
“So what did your folks think of your hair?” asked Baylee. My parents don’t agree with anything I do. As of yesterday my straight black hair which was dyed had streaks of blue.
“Stopped caring.” I muttered.
“You shouldn’t be stuck there, just move out.” Said Spinner. I liked Spinner’s idea.
“Come stay with us.” Said Baylee making it sound easy. It was a good idea and it would be fun.
“Ok.” I said. They smiled.
“When I drive you back to your parents place we can grab your stuff and bring it here. For the time being, Baylee and you can be roommates.” Said Spinner. I was really excited, finally I can be myself in my own home and not be judged for it.
“Thanks you guys! What about your date, Spinner?” I asked. Spinner chuckled.
“Love is like socks, you need the perfect match.” Said Spinner. We all laughed. Baylee got up and discarded the cigarette then she stood in front of us.
“I’ve got to go get ready, why don’t you guys head to Rose’s house and grab her stuff.” Said Baylee. Spinner and I got up and left the house.
