*3 years later*
Wren's P. O. V.

I sat in bed staring at the letter in my lap. I couldn't believe what I was reading. I read through it again, but it still didn't make sense.

"What's in that letter? You look like you've seen a ghost," Jack said. He walked through the door and sat in front of me on the bed.

"Th-they wanna let my dad out."

"Again? No fucking way."

"I have to go to court and say if I want him to be released or not."

"It should be obvious though. He ra-"

"I know. But I still have to go."

"When?"

"Next Tuesday. I have to go and talk about why I don't want him to be released."

"You have to talk about it again?" He asked. I slowly nodded.

"That's fucked up."

"Yeah, it is."

"So you have to go?"

"Yeah, I have to. You'll go with me right?" I asked.

"Of course babe. Come here." He pulled me into his lap, wrapping his arms around me. I put my face into his neck and felt tears fall from my eyes.

"I don't wanna see him again."

"He's gonna be there?" He asked.

"I don't know. I hope not. I don't even wanna talk about him again."

"I know." He rubbed my back. "It'll be okay."

I held onto him, not ever wanting to let go.

"Are you ready for today?" Jack asked in the morning. "You don't have-"

"I do have to, Jack. I'll be fine." I kissed his lips before getting out of bed.

I walked into the bathroom and quickly showered. I wore plain black jeans, a white shirt, and a black blazer with black flats. I straightened my hair then put on light makeup. I brushed my teeth then walked out of the bathroom and saw Jack already dressed. He wore black pants and a black striped button up shirt.

"I'll be ready in a few minutes," he said. I nodded before grabbing my purse and walking out of the room.

"You look nice," Jonah commented as I walked into the living room.

"I have to go talk about my dad in court."

"What? Why?" He asked.

"They want me to decide if he stays in prison or not. Obviously he will, but I'm required to go."

"I'm sorry, Wren."

"It's fine. Jack's coming with me."

"That's good."

"It's still gonna be hard, though." I sighed, looking at the ground. I felt Jonah wrap his arms around me so I hugged him back.

"You'll do great."

"Thanks."

"Okay, I'm ready to go," Jack said walking in. I followed Jack out to his car and got in the passenger seat.

After the silent drive to the courthouse, Jack and I walked hand in hand inside. I checked in and a worker took me to one of the courtrooms.

We waited for the judge, then she called me up to the front. Jack squeezed my hand before letting me go. She basically just asked me to explain why or why not m dad should be released.
