Lena's P.O.V.

Come to the roof

I read Kara's text skeptically and hesitate before following the instructions. I decide Kara's worth the break but if I get pushed off the top of the building, I'm gonna be mad. Reaching the top of the stairwell, I push open the door curiously.

The cold wind makes me shiver instantly and Kara is next to me within a second, wrapping a fuzzy blanket around my shoulders. There's another blanket laid out on the ground and my girlfriend sits down on it expectantly. I follow suit, trusting Kara enough to sit on the hard ground. The blonde lays down and pulls me halfway on top of her so my head is resting on her chest and her arm is wrapped securely around my waist.

"Kara, what are we doing?" I ask softly, cuddling into her as I speak.

"I figured you could use a break and I always see you looking at the stars out the window. I know it's kinda hard to see all of them because of the dumb light pollution but I hope this is good enough," She rambles and I chuckle softly.

"It's perfect." I examine the sky, noting that the moon is a waning gibbous tonight. I tell this to Kara and she laughs about how technical I am.

"It's weird, thinking that I've visited so many of the planets and learned all I could about them, but I know almost nothing about stars and constellations," Kara sighs and squeezes me tighter.

"I could tell you about them if you'd like," I offer without hesitation and I know without looking at her that Kara is giving me her brightest smile.

"Would you?" She sounds hopeful but also disbelieving and I nod against her chest. I use my left arm to point out constellations as I use my right to draw them lightly on Kara's skin with my index finger. I recite the tales behind them and Kara, in turn, tells me of the planets. I name the stars and she names the planets. I recount to her the meanings behind the constellations and the understanding that they brought. Kara weaves stories of beautiful planets and tragic wars.

We swap stories until way later in the night, until we're both halfway asleep and yawning every other sentence. And, even after Kara has flown us home and we're tucked safely in bed, a roof covering our heads and hiding the night sky, we tell stories in hushed whispers as I trace the patterns of stars onto Kara's skin.
