Chapter 2: Getting Settled

I sat on the un-made mattress in my new apartment (or should I say flat?) looking at the empty place. It was all combined in one gigantic room except for the bathroom (or lou?) which was behind a closed door (thank goodness). I took it all in. I couldn’t believe I had finally made it to London! I pulled out my phone which had been constantly going off since I got off my plane.

From: Ashley

I know you butt has landed in London and yet my phone hasn’t gotten a call from you! If you don’t call by 5 pm my time I swear I will catch the next plane ride just to make sure you weren’t killed. I know where you live!

There were other texts from Ashley along that line as well. I won’t tell you how many because I wouldn’t want to embarrass her.

From:Erin                                                                                                                                                                 I hope the plane ride was okay and that you didn’t eat the peanuts because plane food is gross. Ashley is calling me non-stop asking me what time you’re supposed to land. I swear she’s gone crazy. Call us soon xoxo Erin

Only one text from Erin, which shows how much she cared, not much… just kidding.

I dialed their numbers and waited for them to answer. Finally they both picked up.

“I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my Charlie go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.” Ashley said over the phone.

“Ashley why are you quoting Taken?” I asked her laughing when she had finished.

“Whew! I thought you were kidnapped or worse dead!” She shouted over the phone.

“Did you just learn that?” Erin asked her.

“Yup! I’m talented, I know!” She replied laughing.

“So how was the plane ride?” Erin asked.

“Well let’s just say cheap seat aren’t really worth it.” I said remembering the plane trip which for my first definitely convinced to abhor plane trips.

“Why? What happened?” Ashley asked.

“Well I sat near a fighting couple, a crying stinky baby that made not want kids, and a snoring old guy who would occasional switch his head back and forth sending drool in every direction.” I said recalling had to go without a pillow due to the fact he had drenched it.

“I’m sorry.” Erin commented. There was a rustling on her end and then a crunch.

“Erin, are you eating again?” Ashley asked her.

“What? I just woke up 30 minutes ago. I haven’t had breakfast yet…” she replied with another crunch.

“It was nice talking to you guys but I have to unpack and decorate before hitting the hay.” I told them getting up and reaching for my home-making suitcase.
