The music started and I walked into the huge chapel. I’m not going to pretend I remember all of this. I don’t for most. I had Chuck tell me what happened. Yeah, he was there. According to him I walked down the aisle with all the grace befitting an angel of the Lord. I was impassive and serene, which is interesting since all I remember is feeling the horror of Sam and Cas’ death. Chuck was there, hidden amongst the angels in the seats. He said I looked like some kind of goddess. I got to the end of the aisle, where Zach was waiting for me. This is when some of memories kick in.
Dean was staring at Zach in horror, God knows why, and the woman and small boy with him were staring around in awe. The little boy was impossibly like Dean. It was scary. Dad was out of his wheel chair, by some grace of God, and Mary was standing beside him. Dad looked at me and he almost broke down in tears. I cringed inside at the thought we hadn’t seen each other in months when it felt like hours. The Zachariah took my hand.
“Are you ready?” He asked. Cue loss of memory. Chuck said I curtsied and the angels applauded. Zach stood in front of me facing the chapel and smiled. “Dearly beloved, this wedding is foretold, and will come to fruition when our final guest arrives. Please all stand whilst I say the prayer.” Then Chuck refuses to translate the impossibly holy prayer of angel marriage. They all sat back down and Zach looked at the door. “Any second now.” Then Dean butted in.
“Whoa. Who’s the pastor? If you’re marrying her then where’s the padre?” Dean said. The angels laughed and Zach shook his head.
“Silly little boy. I marrying her. Not getting married to her.” He said. Dean blanked and the doors burst open. That’s when my memory comes back. I don’t know if it was the loud noise, or the overwhelming aura, or just the relief of him being there, but it snapped me back to reality. I turned in place and saw Castiel standing in the doorway, bold as brass. Every angel in the church turned to face him, and some actually got down on one knee or stood up. He walked purposefully towards me and stopped at my side. He glared at Zachariah and waved a hand through him. He disappeared in a haze of blue mist.
“Enough. Zachariah has been dead for weeks.” He said. There was an audible gasp from the angels. He turned to them and sent me a small wink. “Pardon us for a moment.” He grabbed my hand and pulled me back up the aisle with Dean, Mary, dad, and the mystery woman and her son on our heels. The black rose fell from my hair and was crushed underfoot. We got outside and Cas tried to say something to me, holding both my hands, but Dad pulled me away and hugged me tightly while Dean started talking quickly to Castiel. Why could Dad walk?
The boy and his mom were listening vapidly to Mary, who was apparently explaining things. The noise level was insane and finally Cas got loud. “Enough!” He said, and his voice echoed around the empty halls. He took my hand and led me a few feet away. He looked me dead in the eye and spoke very fast. “I need to ask you this before I continue on. I’ve been with you for two years now, and every time I’ve stared death in the face I have only had one regret. You. I regretted that I never had more time to be with you.”
“Cas we don’t have time for this.” Dean interrupted. Cas pointed at him and he moved his mouth, but no words came out. Dean crossed his arms angrily and the kid laughed.
“Angela. I have never ever regretted anything more than the way I pushed you away. The way I refused to admit that I loved you. Please if you will forgive me, I want to do you the one favor I have been trying to do from the beginning. Do you remember the night that I found out you were insane? I promised to help you and gave you a key. Do you still have it?” He asked softly. I took it off from around my neck and he held it in his open hand. “I went back to heaven and pleaded your case to Zachariah and my superiors. They said they would help, but refused to tell me. So when Zachariah told you that you had to get married I was worried that he would take you from me, but I never fought it, because I knew it would cure you.”
“What are you getting at boy?” Dad said. Cas silenced him as well and Mary laughed this time.
“I gave you this key because I planned to marry you. I wanted you to keep this with you so I would always remember why I had to help you. Because I do love you. I love you, Angela. Will you marry me?” He turned his hand and the key twisted into a beautiful golden ring with diamond studs in the rim. Mary and the woman gasped and held each other and the ‘awe!’ moment. I didn’t even bother answering. He already knew. I slipped on the ring and he pulled me into a kiss. He pulled back far too soon and smiled slightly at me. “Let’s go get married.” He whispered softly.
Mary went back into the church, which seemed to be full of noise and confusion since Cas had gotten rid of the Zachariah illusion. Dean went in next with the woman and child following after him. Dad kissed me on the forehead and held out his arm. We entered the chapel as the music started up again. We walked together and I saw Chuck standing at the end, shaking noticeably. He didn’t remember this bit, sadly, and I had to fill him in. Several times. We got to the end, and Dean was trying to straighten Cas’ tie. Cas was struggling a bit, and someone had stolen his coat. I slapped Dean’s hand and Cas smiled slightly.
We both faced Chuck, who performed the most pathetic and hilarious sermon I have heard to date. I smiled the whole time, because it was Chuck. My little buddy. He was adorable and I couldn’t shoot him down. He finally stopped blubbering after Dean gave him a slip of paper to read off of. He looked at it and read loudly and calmly, like the author he was, and looked up at Cas after a few seconds.
“Castiel, do you take Angelica to be your lawfully wedded wife?” Chuck said nervously. Castiel blanked and looked at Dean.
“I’m not familiar with this.” He hissed to Dean. Dean rubbed his face.
“Do you like the girl?” he growled.
“Obviously.” Castiel said huffily.
“Then say ‘I Do’ idjit.” Dad said. Cas blushed and turned back to me awkwardly.
“I do.” He said it like a question. Chuck sighed and looked to me.
“Angelica, do you take Castiel to be your lawfully wedded husband?” He said with a bit more strength.
“I do.” I said with a grin. Cas smiled at me, the first real smile I had seen on his face for a long time.
“Then, by the power vested in me by God, since I’m his prophet, I pronounce you Husband and wife.” Chuck said. There was applause and the angels all stood. Castiel looked surprised and looked at them in confusion. “You may kiss the bride!” Chuck shouted over the noise. Castiel looked at me and I laughed. He pulled me into a hug and we kissed. There was spark of light when we made contact and I felt this warm feeling wash over me. I had never realized it, but I had been cold. For almost two years I was cold, and now I was warm. It may have been the madness, or it may have been the fact that I never had Castiel until that moment. Either way. I was whole. I was wed. I was married to an angel.
