When I first met you

We were put into the same class. All of us moving up together but, unlike you, I didn't have anyone from my old school.

In fact, I didn't really have anyone.

You were popular and I was new. Like every cliche ever

I was so nervous to learn about my classes.

I noticed you almost immediately because you had the cutest smile. I remember the first time I saw it, I froze because I thought no one should have a smile that sweet.

When I heard your name, the girls beside me nudged me, telling me that they knew you'd be a heartbreaker.

I still couldn't get over that smile.

But still, you'd never noticed me.

I was the shadow to your light.

You loved the attention and I cowered from it

I was perfectly content to watch you from afar.

Like the moon watches the sun.

Like the stars watch over us.

I was okay to admire from a distance.

But you'd never know.
