Fletch had gone back to his room at around 5am. No point inviting awkward questions unnecessarily.
The next day they had a lazy morning and then piled into the beast .
"Where am I dropping you off Jac?"
"My house" she squeezed his hand reassuringly
Fletch looked downhearted but soon regained his smile when the kids started singing some song or other.
They pulled up outside Jac's house and she and Emma got out. Both reluctant.
I hope I'm not just being stubborn she thought
"Bye everyone" they shouted into the car.
"Bye" came the chorus
"Bye you" Jac said to Fletch, again squeezing his hand, feeling too awkward to kiss him in front of the Fletchlings
"I'll call you later"
Fletch made his way home wishing she was beside him. It was still possible to count the time they'd been together in hours but it felt like so much longer because of the amount of months he'd loved her.
When they got home there were cards on the mat - one saying that there had been a report of a gas leak, one saying that there had been report of a water leak resulting in water being cut off and a third saying If you need a place to stay here's my address Ax
Abigail
She must have done this before going to Elliot's house.
He went straight to the kitchen and tried the tap - nothing. Tried the gas hob - nothing
"For fucksake" he muttered under his breath
He rang the numbers on the cards but as it was a Sunday afternoon and there was no immediate danger to life, the water and the gas would not be on until Monday.
"Don't get settled kids. We have no water or gas"
"But I need to wash my hair" complained Evie.
"Ok, I'm going to text Jac and see if we can stay there tonight"
Evie rolled her eyes and flopped down on the sofa, messaging all her friends about it.
She's never going to believe me he chuckled to himself, Fletch laid the cards out and took a photo on his phone and attached it to a message
Came home to this. Obviously she came here before going to Elliot's. Water and gas off until morning. Is there any chance you could take in 5 refugees for the night? F x
Jac smiled at her phone as she saw Fletch's caller id come up. That didn't take long she thought
She read the message and laughed
Her actions are just driving us closer together! Of course you can stay but it will be a squeeze, my house is no where near as big as yours Jx
"Ok kids we're going to Jac's for the night. Can you gather what you need for school" he then texted back
Thank you. Her plan has indeed back fired. See you soon. Fx
"Emma" she called "the Fletcher's are coming to stay for the night"
Emma jumped up and down with excitement "yay" she said clapping her hands. "Can Ella sleep in my room?"
"Of course baby" The two girls had really hit it off.
"Mikey and Theo can have the back bedroom, Evie can have the study downstairs on the sofa bed and Fletch can have the couch"
"Why can't Fletch share with you mummy?" Emma asked innocently "are you not friends anymore?"
"Of course we're still friends but he's still sleeping on the couch." She hugged her little girl. "Come on, let's go and make sure the beds are ready"
