Jac walked confidently into the crèche, she signed them both in and left without giving anyone the opportunity to question her.
She walked to the ward with a smug look on her face, they had been too scared to ask
"Still got it Naylor" she said to herself as she entered the ward
"Miss Petrenko, Mr Fletcher" she said acknowledging them both at the nurses station
"I'm not intending to join you in theatre today Miss Petrenko I will be catching up on paperwork so if you need me I will be in my office"
"Welcome back Ms Naylor" Frieda said . Jac nodded and entered her office
Frieda sniggered "well that wasn't awkward at all" she said to Fletch "she still seems quite 'icy' - you not managed to melt her yet"
"Wouldn't you like to know" he grinned and walked away
Mid morning Fletch had been battling with staffing rotas since the crack of dawn when someone knocked on his office door
"Come in" he called in his usual cheery voice
"Hi" said Jac "brought you coffee"
"Hi. That's a bit of a change, usually me turning up in your office with coffee"
"Yeah well a lot of things have changed since I was last at work"
"And I for one am very pleased about that" he stood up taking the coffee cups off her and placed them on his desk
He took her in his arms "not sure I got a goodbye kiss this morning Naylor"
"Oh how remiss of me. Would you like me to rectify that now?" Jac raised a questioning eyebrow
"If you would be so kind"
"Shut up Fletch" she said and kissed him briefly
"That was hardly worth the wait" he complained
"I know that we are prone to getting far too carried away very quickly so that's your lot"
He laughed "it's not my fault you're so sexy"
She told him to shut up again and sat on the one comfortable chair in his office whilst he resumed his position on the desk chair.
She kicked her shoes off and placed her feet across his legs.
"How's your first day back?" He said sipping his coffee and stroking her legs
"It's ok. Just itching to get back to surgery but the CEO has to authorise it"
"Difficult from a psychiatric bed"
"Mmm I'll ask Serena if she is going to step in again. How's your morning been?"
"Boring. Suddenly improved about 10 minutes ago" he flashed his best cheeky grin
Ignoring his comment she went on "have you sorted out your water and gas?"
"Yeah I rang them first thing. Should be fine by the time I get home. Am I going to see you later?"
"God Fletch are you not sick of me. We literally haven't been apart since we got together"
"I'm not sick of you, why, are you sick of me?"
"Don't be silly, it's just not what I'm used to "
"Jac, I don't care what came before, you're with me now and I can't get enough of you. Got it?" He reached for her hand and entwined their fingers "got it?"
Jac smiled shyly "alright calm down. Why don't you pick the little ones up as you finish earlier than me and I'll call in for Emma on my way home"
It was still difficult for her to accept the uncomplicated love they had for each other. No manipulation,no hidden agenda,no false declarations of love to ensure promotion or other gain
"I'll see you later Fletch" she stood up and took his hand. Kissing his knuckles she told him she loved him "Fletch I have never been in a relationship like this before, there's always been other issues, another agenda. I have been such a bitch over the years. I guess deep down I feel I don't deserve you or your love" she laughed humourlessly "that's probably why it took me so long to admit I loved you. It was the thought that I'd lost you that allowed me to take a chance. So you'll just have to put up with my insecurities and amazement of getting so lucky. Ugh I'm making myself feel nauseous now with all this soppines" she smiled "I'm going"
He smiled as she left.
"You do deserve this Jac and so do I " he said to the closed door
