Jac insisted on driving him home. Having retrieved Theo's booster seat from Fletch's car, she now had Emma and Theo chattering away in the back seat. They didn't understand what was happening but it was desperately exciting to be taken out of crèche, been able to play with proper doctors things like stethoscopes and thermometers and now getting to go home together with their mum and dad in the middle of the day.
Pulling up at Fletch's house, Jac blushed when she thought about what they'd got up to there less than 3 days ago. She mused at how intense things had become in such a short time but then reminded herself that actually things had been intense for months before they got together.
"Who wants cheese toasties for lunch" Jac said to the kids The end
"Me, me" they both shouted
"And me" joined in Fletch causing both kids to fall about laughing "whadisay?"
The kids went out into the garden to play whilst Jac made lunch.
Fletch sat at the kitchen table. "I remember when you were last in here cooking"
He wasn't coming on to her but just trying to make sense of what had happened since then.
"Fletch- I don't really know what to say about this morning and if you want to talk about it
you know I'm here and if you don't that's fine too. I'm just glad you're safe"
"Come here" he said "what happens now?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean with us"
"With us? What do you mean with us?"
"She's not gonna go away is she?" He said sadly
"Well hopefully she'll be arrested and we get some sort of restraining order against her."
"You mean you want to stick around for this shit"
Jac sat down next to him and got hold of his uninjured hand " did you get hit on the head in there or something? I love you Fletcher you do not get rid of me that easily. God do you know how much I was going out of my mind when you made that phone call. I was so scared but I would rather do that a million tines and still have you in my life than not go through it all" she paused "I'm not even sure if that makes sense but you know what I mean. I'm not going anywhere. Unless you want me to"
"Of course I don't want you to I just needed to give you the option" he kissed her hand "the toasties are burning"
"Crap" Jac said and jumped up
After lunch the kids went back outside. As Fletch and Jac sat with a cuppa Jac's phone rang - they both tensed, she glanced at the caller id "it's Petrenko" she sighed in relief
"Hi"
"Hi Jac. Just wanted to let you know that Abigail was arrested and charged with holding someone captive and I think ABH on Fletch. They're still holding her till they've spoken to Fletch so I wanted to warn you they'll be coming over to Fletch's. Is he ok?"
Jac looked over at Fletch who had laid his head back and closed his eyes "yes he's fine, thanks for letting us know"
"What's the news?" asked Fletch with his eyes still closed
"She's in custody, they're holding her until they've spoken to you, the police are on the way. I can stay or I can get the kids out of the way"
"I really want you here. Do think we could come up with something to tell the kids why the police are here"
"I'll think of something"
"You lie very well Ms Naylor"
"I can, about some things. Lying to myself is usually the biggest problem" she laughed "although I did do a pretty convincing impersonation of corporate services when I called psycho Abi to get her out of the room. It was Petrenko's idea but she thought she wouldn't be able to disguise her accent well enough"
"Clever Petrenko" he commented
"This is so surreal. A week ago I was sitting at home wondering what I would walk back into when I returned to work and now I'm sitting on your sofa, kids playing outside, waiting for the police to arrive because some psycho nearly killed you because we're together"
"I know it's mad"
"Apart from the obvious, I wouldn't change a thing" she kissed him, not expecting him to pull her towards him , deepening the kiss
"Missed you" he nuzzled her neck
"It was only a few hours Fletch"
"I know but a lot happened in those few hours"
"Sssh about that now" and she kissed him again trying to express all her relief at his safety
