Fletch pretty much broke the speed limit and jumped every red light to get to Jac's house. He was thankful that when she'd been in his kitchen the day before she'd found a notepad and wrote
If I'm not here, I'll be there......
And wrote her address
Fletch mounted the kerb as he pulled up outside Jac's house. He rang the doorbell and knocked on the door
"Who is it?" Jac asked
"It's me babe let me in"
Jac opened the door and flung herself at Fletch, almost knocking him over. It was only then that they noticed that Emma had come downstairs to see who was at the door
"Hi Fletch" she looked a little puzzled to see her mother in his arms "Hi princess" he said Jac moved away so he could pick up her daughter
"Hey haven't seen you for ages"
"Mummy was a bit poorly so she hasn't been at work" Emma said seriously
"Well I've missed you and so has Theo"
Emma giggled "he's smelly"
Fletch grinned- she likes him then he thought "boys generally are" he agreed
"Will you sing one of your silly songs"
Fletch caught Jac's eye over the top of Emma's
head. She nodded and smiled
"Ok just one but then I have to talk to your mum about something?"
"Is she your girlfriend Fletch?"
"I think so" he said "but you'll have to ask her"
"Mummy?"
"Yes baby I'm Fletch's girlfriend " Jac smiled
"Ok. Which song shall we do" said Emma taking the situation in her stride
It melted Jac's heart to see the two people she loved most in the world getting on so well. They genuinely liked each other. Fletch was so good with her. She watched as Fletch did a rendition of one of his silly songs with actions that Emma joined in with.
"Now I happen to know that your mummy bought you a new peppa pig dvd" he said when they'd finished
"Yes that was my surprise. Thank you mummy" she went over to Jac and hugged her round the waist.
"You're welcome baby. Why don't you run up and get it and put it on in the living room whilst me and Fletch have a cup of tea" she said reading Fletch's mind
Once Emma was engrossed Jac and Fletch headed for the kitchen and shut the door
As soon as they were alone Fletch once again took her in his arms
"What on earth's wrong, is it Emma, has Jonny done something "
Jac shook her head "she was here"
"She? You don't mean Abigail?"
"Yes I mean Abigail "
They sat down at the table with a cuppa
"So .... " he prompted
"So she was quite menacing Fletch. She thought you two meant something to each other"
"Jac you know that any emotions were just one way. You have to believe me, you do believe me? I never once stopped thinking about you since the day you left"
She placed a hand on his "how could I not believe you after the past couple of days Fletch. She's deranged or obsessed with you"
"But" he said confused "I never did anything, never said anything to suggest we were anything more than .. well you know" he now couldn't even bring himself to use words to say that they had had meaningless sex. They weren't lovers, they weren't anything other than a convenience as far as Fletch was concerned.
"I told her I'm going back to work on Monday which she took as me wanting to be there to make sure you didn't go scurrying back to her when I wasn't around "
Fletch laughed humourlessly "why didn't you come back 3 weeks ago Jac then I wouldn't have made this monumental mistake"
"I didn't know we loved each other then did I" Jac said quietly wishing exactly the same thing.
"Babe, I'm not blaming you, it's just a rubbish situation and bad timing" he leant across to kiss her
"She's obviously accessed my file too" Jac said "and it was her ringing last night. What are we going to do?"
Fletch rubbed his face "I guess I'll have to go and talk to her"
"You know that's exactly what she wants" said Jac
"Yes. But I can't have her turning up here and scaring you because of me. I can't have her threatening to make things difficult at work for us both"
He pulled Jac up so she was standing next to him and kissed her deeply "you are my world, I will fix this"
