" I need to go home and get some sleep" Jac yawned as she stroked Fletch's forearm
"And I had better get back to work. Can I see you later?" He sounded unsure of himself as if he couldn't believe that this had finally happened after all the months of hoping and he falling for her only for everything to come crashing down round his ears when she left
"Of course. I assume you'll need to sleep after this night shift so what time will you get up?"
"I don't know how I'm going to sleep with all this" he gestured to them "filing my head with distracting thoughts"
Jac blushed "Who's got your kids tonight?"
"They stay at mum's when I'm on nights"
"Emma is at Jonny's. Shall I come round to yours later? I'l cook you breakfast"
"Pinch me" he grinned " Jac Naylor did not just offer to come to my house and cook breakfast for me. It must be a dream"
She playfully batted his arm "you might think it's a nightmare when you've tasted my cooking"
Jac looked bashful "so we've established a few things tonight"
"Yes" he said leaning in to kiss her forehead. She smiled remembering him doing that on the day she left
"but" she continued " I don't know where you live"
Fletch laughed "and I don't know where you live either. It's like we only exist within these walls"
"Text me when you wake up and give me the address then"
Jac got up and made her way to the door
"Hey" Fletch said encircling her wrist "not so fast Naylor" he pulled her into an embrace and kissed her lightly "later" he whispered against her neck, the action sending shivers up and down her spine
Leaving the staff room, Jac saw Frieda across the ward.
"You and I are not accustomed to human contact Petrenko but ...." Jac hugged her tightly with tears in her eyes "thank you" she whispered. Frieda couldn't contain her look of surprise until she glanced past Jac s shoulder and saw Fletch standing watching them with the biggest grin on his face. Frieda smiled at the realisation that they had finally admitted their feelings to each other.
" you just needed a gentle push Ms Naylor"
