(A/N: So my brother turned 18 today and I'm sorry I couldn't upload that much/that good content but my mum made me do everything. Driving into the city buying stuff, cleaning the living room, taking care of his guests, decorating cupcakes and so on... in addition to that, my father needed to go to the hospital during the party and wasn't able to come :( I'm sorry this chapter isn't that good and I don't know if I will be able to upload tomorrow.)
Hiccup's POV
Fishlegs pulled a rope and the bars lifted a bit, enough for me and Toothless to go through. He wished us good luck and the other guard mumbled something I couldn't hear, but Fishlegs told him to shut up so I guess it wasn't that positive. I got on Toothless' back to make sure I won't loose him and to be safe to fly away if we had to. Our steps echoed through the cave and hit the stone walls again and again. The screeches and growling of the dragons where heard from everywhere. The further we got into the cave, the darker it got. “Toothless, we need some light, got it?”, I whispered, hoping not to attract any dragons. Unfortunately, Toothless shot a fireball right trough the cave instead if what I thought he could do. Maybe he isn't able to keep the fire in his mouth and let it flow a bit, but never mind. Some dragons got quite and their eyes followed the fireball. “OK, but we need the light to see something, OK Buddy? It's no use if you trow it away.” I petted his head and he shook himself joyful. He opened his mouth and the cave brightened up. I saw some dragons at the walls and the ceiling but as soon as they noticed us, they... they flew away? “You saw this? Why are they avoiding us. I thought they were aggressive.”, whispered to Toothless even though I knew he won't answer. I commanded Toothless to light the cave even more and as he did, I saw several dragon types flying away in different directions. A Deadly Nadder and a Hideous Zippleback flew directly towards us and Toothless backed away, closing his mouth, causing it to get dark again. The dragons screeched again and I heard some landing next to us. Toothless was about to take of but I stopped him and petted his head. “Don't worry, just light the cave a bit. I got this.” He shot a fireball, again, and it rushed through a gab between the Deadly Nadder and the Hideous Zippleback, causing them to jump in fear and screech even more. “Calm down! Woah!”, I held my hands up to calm them, even if they may not see me, but they relaxed after a few seconds. Maybe they do see me. Their eyes are used to the darkness, they developed something like a night vision, I guess. “Toothless... may we have some light?” All of the three dragons opened their muzzles and lightened up the caves. I took a closer look at them and saw scars and injuries over their bodies. I squinted my eyes and looked behind them, just for many other injured dragons to find. “Oh my god...” The story Ruffnut and Snotlout told me replayed in my head.
After one and a half year, the dragons seemed peevish. Within months, they became very aggressive. They started to fight each other and sometimes throw down their riders. Many people got hurt during dragon races. Only a few people, very passionate riders, were brave enough to compete for dragon races. I stopped racing after a half year from this, two years since you were gone, and a few months later, Snotlout and I came together. I told him to stop, but he won't listen. He stopped after the first rider lost his live during the race. At that point, the chief forbid dragon racing. Some foolish people practiced illegal dragon races and most of them paid with their lives. The dragons started to destroy our village and we saw no other way than abandon them. We scared them with fire, shackled them and frighten them away in the cave. We had no bars to keep them away so it was pretty dangerous at the cave. Ten men guarded the cave and frightened the dragons so they would stay in there. Some said they threw burning torches in the cave or killed little dragons and threw their limp bodies to scare the dragons. But I don't believe this. We had such a strong bound with them. No one wanted to kill them. It hurt to see them getting locked away. But we couldn't risk the lives of more people. No one could tame them. The dragons didn't listen. Five brave men tried their luck to tame them, but not one of them was lucky enough to succeed. Three are traumatized, the other two lost an arm or a leg. The live without the dragons is dull. We need your help Hiccup!
I observed the cave to find what I was looking for. Torches. A few used torches lie on the ground near the dragons. I got off of Toothless and picked two or three up. The torches seemed to be fine so I lit them with the dragons help. Rethinking the story, seeing the dragons and being in that cave made me sick. They were frightened, but why? “I'm not here to hurt you.”, I said while petting the Deadly Nadder. Its spikes where relaxed so it probably saw no danger in me, like if he knew me. And then I realized. “Stormfly? Is this you?” She rubbed her head against my chest, making me smile. Then the other dragon has to be... “Barf and Belch?”, I exclaimed as one of the Hideous Zippleback's head looked at me, while the other one looked at Toothless. He seemed to recognize them too and wanted to play with them, but they backed away. What was the cause for their sudden behavior? What were they so afraid of?
