Liesel did return the next day. She looked for the book everywhere. She had the courage to look on what it was her house. She found nothing. And she talked alone again.
"Rudy, I need to find those books, I mean it Saurkel, where are they?" She turned and saw nothing, again. She felt sadness again. She headed to the Amper river, but she didn't dove in. She was completely depressed and she needed to rest, but she couldn't forget Rudy. She headed back home.Ilsa told her there was a very important dinner that day, so she needed to get a bath, and to get something nice. The Steiner family's funeral was the next day, so she decided to take a bath, for Rudy. She made a simple hairstyle, and put on a red dress. She headed downstairs, in silence.
"Oh, there she is" Ilsa said. She was holding a glass of wine. Ilsa walked to Liesel.
"Come on Liesel, sit with us" she nodded shyly, and sat down next to Ilsa. Everyone was quiet. All of the people who were there, were important. That's what Mr. Hermann said. There was a man, with black hat, and elegant suit, staring at Liesel.
"So Liesel" the man said "Where are you from?"
"Molching" The man nodded.
"How old are you?"
"Fourteen"
"Where did you live before coming here?"
"Himmel Street" the man nodded again. Liesel was feeling completely strange, with this man asking questions to her. She looked to her shoes. She wasn't eating.
"Oh, I know what happened there, did your parents died?" Liesel felt a twinge of pain in her chest. Ilsa looked at the man hatefully.
"Maybe you should go to read something, Liesel" Liesel still looked at her shoes.
"Yes, they died"
"You are the last survivor, right? Oh, know I remember you, you were the girl who was always hanging out with Alex Steiner's son, right? What was his name? Roy?" Liesel hold her tears.
"Rudy"
"Right, Rudy. What happened to him? He died to?" And that's when Liesel lost her mind. She stood up and hit the table with her hand.
"IT DOESN'T CONCERNS YOU WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM! OR WHAT HAPPENED TO MY PARENTS! THEY DIED AND I CAN'T DO ANYTHING TO BRING THEM BACK! IT'S MY LIFE! AND I DON'T NEED EVERYONE TO REMIND ME THAT MY PARENTS DIED! THAT MY BEST FRIEND DIED! I ALREADY HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT E-V-E-R-Y DAY! AND YOU COME HERE TO REMIND ME ONE MORE TIME THAT THEY DIED! AND EVERYTHING BECAUSE OF YOUR GODDAMN WAR! " Liesel sat down again, and put her hands in her face, covering her tears. Ilsa made her stand up and she made her walk to her room. Liesel cried in Ilsa's shoulder.
"I'm sorry" she said. Her voice really sounded like she regretted it.
"Don't worry, you are right, but you didn't have to be so rude to him"
"But,it isn't nice that someone asks for your parents's dead". They walked into Liesel's room.
"Have a rest, okay? I'll just tell everyone to excuse us and we can read something together, sounds good?" Liesel nodded, and Ilsa headed downstairs. Then, she heard something.
"That girl is crazy! She needs professional help!" Mr. Hermann's voice.
"We were the same when our son died!" Ilsa replied.
"She didn't treat our guests correctly! Hear this Ilsa. If she doesn't changes, she will get the hell out of this house, got it?" Liesel felt terrible. She was breaking down, slowly. She cried, her back in the wall. And her head in her knees.
"She is just sad! You just need to give her time" Ilsa replied, with the most sweet tone she could do.
"I don't care if she is sad, and you know what? It's your fault. You let her go back to Himmel Street. She can't continue going over there, because that will cause her more sadness".
"You can't just take her past out of her"
"Yes, I can, she isn't going out of this house, not even to the shop! AND I HOPE YOU ARE HEARING THIS, SAUMENSCH!" And that's what made her cry more. I'm Rudy's Saumensch, she thought. I need to go to Himmel Street, she thought again. She grabbed a bag, put her books in, and ran downstairs.
"Where do you think you are going?" Mr. Hermann asked.
"To Himmel Street" she said, with her broke voice and ran outside the house in direction to Himmel Street. She ran as fast as she could. The floor was cold. She fell because of a frozen part of concrete. She was hurt. She kept running, until she saw Himmel Street in front of her. It was almost midnight, and she was walking through it. Soldiers were collecting Himmel Street to build it up again. If they could. She arrived to Alex Steiner's shop, and sat down, crying.
"I'm so sorry Rudy, I'm such a bad person, but he insulted you, and I needed to cover your back, I'm sorry" she was shaking. Her lips trembled.
"I need you" and then she fainted.
