April 20th, 1944. The Führer's birthday. That meant another campfire, with books. But what would they burn, if they had no more books about jews and all this? Well, no one knows. Liesel was getting ready for the ceremony. She was sad, yes, but she could do anything. When she was running downstairs, with her Hitler Youth uniform hat, Herr Hermann stopped her.

"Liesel, come over here" Liesel walked to the man with the uniform. "I want to ask you a favor" Liesel nodded softly. "I want you to make a speech today, I want you to tell the people what this country means to you, what this celebration means to you" Liesel shook her head slowly.

"I-I can't do that, I'm not capacitated-" Herr Hermann grabbed Liesel's arm, strongly.

"I know you can do this, don't disappoint me, ja?" Liesel nodded and sigh. Someone knocked the door. Liesel opened and Lucas stood in front of her.

"Guten Tag, Herr Hermann, I came to walk Liesel, I hope you don't mind"

"Of course not" He smiled and Liesel smiled back.

"Come on Liesel" Lucas said with a smile. When they finally walked out of the house, Liesel kicked a stone in the ground, and the stone bumped through the streets. Lucas looked at her.

"What's wrong?"

"We are going to burn" Liesel muttered.

"And what's wrong with burning?" Lucas asked, with curiosity.

"We are going to burn books!" Liesel almost shouts. "Books, Lucas! Books!" Lucas passed an arm through Liesel's skinny shoulders, and kissed her head. She accepted the kiss, and she remained in Lucas's hugging arms. Arriving to the ceremony, Liesel begged Lucas to go with her, and stay by her side. He accepted. Here Hermann started with his speech of always. Liesel stared at the pile of books and newspapers. She did not hear the speech. She didn't want to.

"Now, Liesel Meminger is going to give a speech in the name of all the German kids" Liesel woke up from her book dream and walked to the podium. She moved her hands nervously. I'm a word shaker, she thought.

"This country is full of wonders, everywhere, in the landscapes, in the music, in the people also. This country is capable of doing what the people wants it to do. We can do anything, but only if we propose to do it, and do it right" This is not me, she thought, I'm not speaking, my inner Nazi is speaking, I'm not speaking. "Words can make a difference, everywhere. Words changed me. Words are powerful, and if you do not know how to use them, they can kill you" I'm not doing a Nazi speech, I'm making people change their minds, with words " I would like to tell everyone over here that without words we would be nothing. We would be some kind of people we really don't want to be. I enjoy words, and I hope I learned how to use them. They saved my life once, and I'm sure they'll save yours one day. We need words. I don't know if you will accept it, but I do. I accept that without words I'll be nothing. Please think of this, and make the words show you how to befriend them" Liesel looked over to Lucas, and he smiled. He smiled at her with his best smile. Smiles in lifetime again. Liesel got down from the podium, and she received what she less expected to. Claps. Claps from the country who was captivated by words. But this time they fell for Liesel's words. She smiled. She walked to Lucas. He hugged her. But then, the perfect moment was ruined with the burning. Liesel grimaced in the instant and groan. She wanted to walk away, but she stood still. Someone handed her a book.

"You don't have to burn it!" Lucas shouted over the heils! In the crowd "You can steal it!" Only Liesel heard him. She looked at the cover. Gold letter in red background. Wort mit Verwunderung, Words of Wonder. Liesel half-smiled.

"Just what I need now" she walked slowly, away from the crowd and started to run back to the house. She was full of excitement. Or she called it like that. Lucas obviously followed. He reached her and put his arm around her waist and turned her to him, and kiss her. Liesel smiled.

"You are the most beautiful book thief I have ever met" Liesel laughed.

"I'm sure I'm the only book thief you know" Lucas laughed to, and his blue eyes showed her that he loved her.

"And the only book thief I'm loving forever" They smiled. "You are brave, Liesel" Liesel smiled, almost grinning.

"And you are brave, because you followed me". They stayed standing still, their breaths collapsed, and they had only a few inches from each other.
