Clementine had seen them on nearly every person she met. Some shiny and so large they sparkled like little stars contained in a wrap of metal. Others were small and gritty looking, but still held the symbol of love in them.

Rings. Or more specifically, wedding rings.

Her mother, Katjaa, Brenda, Rebecca, and a ton of others that wore that special ring on their fourth finger on their left hand.

Clementine never asked them about wedding rings, instead she had asked dozens of random women she had met on the road the deal with wedding rings. The women had claimed that wedding rings were the ultimate show of love. She had asked the women why they still wore the rings in a world where such small things were considered useless and, sometimes, a hazard. Each woman said something along the lines of wearing the ring meant that they were giving themselves to their partner, emotionally and physically. The roundness of the ring shows the never ending and eternal love both partners give to one another. She had also asked why the ring had to be on the left hand and fourth finger. The answer she received was that there was supposedly a major vein in her fourth finger on the left hand that lead directly to her heart and it was incredibly sentimental.

Clementine had never heard that much bullshit in her entire 12 years of life and completely brushed the ladies answers off.

However, when Clementine was 13 she crushed her finger in a car door and it had to be taken off below the knuckle because of gangrene. As luck would have it, it was her ring finger and the young teen didn't think any much of it at the time, besides that it hurt like a bitch, and her and AJ kept going along with their journey. But, everything changed when she met Gabe.

Clementine first thought he was an annoying little shit who would cop an attitude if he didn't like something or if something didn't go his way, but she let it go because she was kinda like that too. After hanging around the boy for awhile Clementine started to warm up to him and even became his friend before she had to leave to find AJ. She thought Gabe would throw a tantrum on wanting to go with her because she knew that he liked her more than friend, but Gabe simply gave her a quick hug and a wave goodbye.

While Clementine was away from him, she had more time to think about the boy in the orange and sort out her feelings for him. When she finally found AJ, Clementine had unknowingly put the Gabe situation on the back burner and focused on AJ alone. A year traveling around with AJ and Clementine finally made her way back to Richmond with AJ, praying that the Garcia's were still there. Not only were they still there and had Richmond thriving with a huge community, Gabe was the first one to greet them and introduced himself to AJ.

Apparently, while Clementine was gone, Gabe had grew up and became mature and responsible. He was one of the leaders of Richmond, along with Javi and Jesus, and that's when Clementine remembered the certain feelings she had for him. After getting her and AJ settled in and finding their place in Richmond, Clementine had asked Gabe one night after dinner if he still had some feelings for her. Gabe's answer was a quick kiss on the lips that eventually lead to more and they became a couple that night.

That was four years ago and to this day they were still going strong. Richmond had become a safe haven for nearly 300 people and eventually had expanded the community by building more houses and even schoolhouses for the growing number of children. AJ had been enrolled into the classes to actually let him learn, as well as Clementine and Gabe to further their education.

Everything was great, until it wasn't.

Gabe had proposed to Clementine last night on one of their regular date nights and Clementine ran away from him with tears in her eyes, leaving Gabe kneeling on one knee on the ground in the pale moonlight. Of course, after a couple minutes, Gabe had chased after her and found her locked in her bathroom.

"Clementine! Hey, tell me what's wrong?! I'm sorry if I messed everything up, but please don't shut me out! We don't have to get married or do anything like that if you don't want to! Please, talk to me!"

Gabe had thought she was just ignoring him and that he was going to have to sit outside all night long, but he seen the door crack open and Clementine poked her tear streaked face out.

"I'm sorry, Gabe. But, I can't wear the ring and I just can't do this. I'm sorry. Please, just leave."

And then Clementine shut the door as Gabe felt his heart breaking even more. Of course he had known about her finger an frankly didn't give a shit about it and thought that Clementine would just put the ring on another finger or something. Apparently not because Clementine avoided Gabe at all cost the following week and he realized that there was only one thing to do: go on a run.

Clementine had avoided Gabe all week and she could feel herself become sick because it was her fault all this had happened. Clementine could only watch with a heavy heart as Gabe went on a run and went back to doing her chores for the day. The run Gabe went on was well over three days and it was a grueling one at that, but it was all worth it when he finally found what he was searching for. Now all he had to do was find Clementine and try again because he wasn't giving up his forever girl that easily.

Clementine had been cleaning her gun on her kitchen table as AJ was upstairs napping after a long day at school. She always cleaned her gun when something was bothering her and it was quite obvious what it had been. Clementine regretted ever saying no to Gabe and could feel her throat start constricting as she realized she might've just lost him forever. As she started reassembling the gun, she felt someone come up behind her and place something around her neck. Clementine flinched at the unsuspected contact before calming down as she rose from her seat and turned to see that it was Gabe. He smiled at her and lightly tapped her neck, making her hand fly up and felt that it was a necklace with something dangling on it.

The ring.

"If I had known that not being able to wear your ring on you ring finger would've bothered you that much, I would've done this in the first place. Besides, now the ring is closer to your heart than it would be on any finger. I'm sorry for not thinking before I acted or even questioning you about it before I proposed, but I couldn't wait to ask you and wanted it to be a surprise. Clementine, I love you for being you and don't care about any scars or injuries you have because I still think you are the most beautiful girl in the whole world and would literally do anything for you and AJ. Clementine, will you marry me?"

Clementine still had been grasping the ring on the necklace with her four fingered hand throughout Gabe's speech and was nodding her head before he was even finished. She said four words that Gabe would remember for the rest of his life.

"Yes. Yes, you dork."

Lol me and clemmbaby fought over who would do this oneshot. Hope I did good!
