(1) Explanations..?

El was uneasy, Mike had been acting strange with her for the last few hours. It began when the two were walking through the supermarket and a guy approached El, and tried luring her away from Mike while he was getting items from another isle.

Mike had gotten angry, and pulled El roughly from the store.

Now they sat in his basement, El was attempting to read a children's book in her head while curled up in her fort.

Mike was randomly cleaning the basement and setting things down extra loud while murmuring incoherently under his breath.

El couldn't understand a word of the book and closed it, setting it down on the floor with a light slam and looking up at Mike. He ceased his small rant and gazed at her.

"Your angry...why?" She questioned with worry threaded into her tone. Mike huffed looking down at El who was sitting cross legged in her fort.

"Friends don't lie, Mike." She said quietly.

"Jesus El, that guy earlier was checking you out! He was checking you out, and it pissed me off ok?!" Mike yelled, El flinched at his outburst, shifting back into the fort a little bit. Mike observed her reaction and was immediately guilty.

"El?" He called his voice softer now. "El I'm sorry, can you come out please?"

She peeped her head out and eyed Mike carefully, she got very anxious when anyone yelled at her.

"El I need to explain something to you." Mike sat down and patted the spot next to him on the couch. El sat down and Mike pulled her onto his lap.

"Ok, so um. About earlier, when we were in the store getting groceries, a boy from my school was there, and he uh" Mike adjusted his arms around El so that she could look at his eyes.

"He looked at you in a way, like how I look at you, but he only wanted to touch you and...stuff." Mike said El gazed up at him.

"Touch, me?" She said "why?"

"He liked the way you look, your— body." Mike said quietly, the thought of any dumbass guy taking advantage of El made him shudder.

"What's so good about my body?" She questioned, looking at her hands.

"Well Eleven." Mike said pronouncing her sort of oddly, it caused her lips to pull up in a smile, "you are about the most beautiful girl on this earth, and that guy, he thought you were beautiful too, but in a different way than me."

El looked confused, she picked at a loose thread on her t shirt and frowned. Mike cleared his throat.

"He thought you were beautiful, but didn't want— he only wanted your body, he didn't want all of you." Mike concluded, El was confused to say the least.

"You should ask Nancy about this, she is better at telling you things anyway." Mike was ashamed that he couldn't explain things like this to her, El placed her small hand on his leg and dipped her head to meet his eyes, which were pointed at the ground.

"I think you explain things fine." She said softly, Mike smiled at this he lifted her chin with his thumb and lowered his face to her level, tilted his head and leaned in, placing a slow, sweet kiss on her pink lips, she returned the motion and both teens went red in the face. El pulled away slowly, and sat back.

"Hopper told me about a word." Mike nodded for her to continue. "He said it was what I felt when I saw you and Max in school." Mike was a bit confused, he knew she saw him and Max and threw her from the skateboard.

"Jel-o-sy? Jealousy" She sounded out the word and looked up at Mike, he went red and looked away from her brown eyes.

"Mike is, jealousy, when a boy from school is.. checking me out..?" El said, repeating his words halfheartedly.

"I'm not going to lie to you El, I- I guess I was a little jealous." Mike said "and El, it's 'Mike is jealous' not 'Mike is jealousy'." Mike said with a chuckle.

El giggled quietly and smiled, cuddling up to Mike's chest, and resting her head at the crook of his neck. Mike leaned down and placed a soft kiss on her head and wrapped his arms around her small frame. Both teens fell asleep, to the crickets outside and the quiet sounds of each other's breathing.
