"And our next stop is....the museum of the American Revolution!" The perky blonde guide chirped.
"Sweet! I'm gonna learn me some history." Dustin said, he was kind of a history nerd, as well as an all around nerd but that was beyond the point.
"I can't believe you like this stuff Dustin, it's so dry." Max grumbled.
"Chin up Max, you get to learn about prehistoric guns and shit." Lucas reassured, as the group of students walked into the large, and thankfully air conditioned building. The 97° weather was not particularly appealing to the average human.
"What about you El? You like history?" Will asked. Mike was at a family reunion, so he couldn't come to the American History trip to Philadelphia.
El shrugged. "Only certain parts I guess.. I like the renaissance and early empires, I mostly just like the art.."
"That's pretty cool, I like post classical stuff, but that's probably just me." Will replied truthfully, with a chuckle.
El smiled dryly in response, she was a bit tried and overheated. She hated humid, hot, and sticky weather.
"I believe history should be taught, so that we don't repeat it in the future. But dear god I don't give a shit about old white men with white wigs." El laughed, Will chuckled.
"You and Max have that in common." He said, rushing ahead to hold the door for El.
"Such a gentleman, Byers." El giggled. Walking past him to enter the admission hall.
El was not impressed to say the least, sure the building and its grandeur were very beautiful, but as they traveled around from exhibit to exhibit, she noticed that there were few, if any women mentioned, and the whole museum was about war.
"All men are created equal.." El read off of one of the signs. "God these people were misogynistic. Women didn't even get to vote until 1920. The American Revolution ended in 1783." El commented, just loud enough for the tour guide to hear her, and go quiet for a moment. Max giggled, she fully expected El to not appreciate the male dominated portion of the tour, but then again, most of history was male dominated.
"I thought you didn't like the american revolution?" Will said.
"I don't, I just retain information well." She said, shrugging slightly and waiting expectantly for the guide to resume her chatter. The blonde eyed El, who merely raised her eyebrows as if to say: "well? what are you waiting for?"
"Anyways, the legendary ride of Paul Revere!" Her voice was high pitched and squeally but everyone else seemed to enjoy it.
A few hours of touring the museum passed before the students filed into a small theater to watch a film on the revolution. The animation was, truly, ahead of its time. It was a fairly enjoyable film, even Max and El thought it was worthwhile.
"The battle of Oriskany, one of the bloodiest battles of the revolution."
There were low drums in the background, the kind that while you were sitting still, you could feel. The vibrations that sent a dull tone in your ears.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The gunshot audio only continued from there. Making El jump. Will noticed her discomfort and squeezed her hand gently. It was usually Mike's job to comfort El when she was nervous, but Mike wasn't here so that was Will's job now.
"War is horrible." El whispered.
"It really is." Will whispered back, the two sat hand in hand for a few more minutes, the movie was almost complete by then, so they sat in a comfortable silence for the rest.
"And that concludes our tour!" The guide stated, gaining a respectable round of applause from her group of students.
"Thanks Amanda that was awesome!" Dustin complimented.
"Thank you for being such a star student Dustin!" She replied gleefully. She waved off the group of kids and went on to the next tour.
From the theater and museum, the group traveled outside, trekking through the hot and humid air to head back to the bus that would transport them to the airport.
Will and El travelled at the back of the group, while Lucas, Max, and Dustin were in front, talking about random things like D&D and weekend plans.
"Mike would have enjoyed this trip." El said with a slight sigh.
"Yeah, he would of dragged you all around that science museum and rambled endlessly about it." Will joked, El smiled.
"You make it sound like that's a bad thing!" She said, Will laughed in response.
"You can tell him all about it when we get home." Will said warmly, as they approached the bus.
"I will." El replied, climbing into their seat.
They settled down, relaxing in the air conditioned bus.
and then they went home!
