"See ya Mike, bye Eleven!" Lucas called as he Max, Will, and Dustin headed to their houses. Mike and El began their walk to the cabin, hands joined and Mike's bike in toe. They walked in a comfortable silence, Mike swayed their hands ever so slightly as El absentmindedly kicked a pebble along the sidewalk.
"Mike?"
"Yeah El?"
"Why doesn't Hopper like you?" She asked innocently. Mike sighed.
"I don't know El. I don't think he has anything against me, but I think it's kind of a dad thing, you know?" Mike said and looked over at the brunette beside him.
"A dad thing?"
"You know, being protective of his daughter, he doesn't want you to get hurt." Mike shrugged, he knew that his father wasn't that way about Nancy, he didn't quite care what she did, but Hopper was different, more fatherly Mike believed.
"Your going to hurt me?" El asked, shocked. Mike laughed and shook his head.
"No El, I promise you, I'm never going to hurt you." He reassured and smiled warmly at her, El smiled back.

El and Mike arrived at the cabin a few minutes after dark and Mike threw his bike down outside, leading El up the steps and into her home.
"Are you tired El?" Mike asked in response to a small yawn coming from her mouth. She nodded as her eyelids became heavy.
Mike ambled to her room and sat on the edge of her bed, waiting for her to come back from the bathroom changing. When she returned Mike tucked her in with a smile.
"Mike?" She asked sleepily. "Can you read me something? I like listening to you read." She said and looked over at the boy sitting on her bed, a light blush tinted his cheeks and he looked around the room.
"Sure Elly, what would you like me to read?"
"You can choose Mike, I'll like whatever you choose."
Mike hummed in response, and began his search for a good book to read to El. He came across Anne of Green Gables and smiled picking up the book. He sat beside El, who cuddled up beside him and waited patiently for him to begin reading.
"Matthew Cuthbert and the sorrel mare jogged comfortably over the eight miles to Bright River. It was a pretty road, running along between snug farmsteads, with now and again a bit of balsamy fir wood to drive through or a hollow where wild plums hung out their filmy bloom. The air was sweet with the breath of many apple orchards and the meadows sloped away in the distance to horizon mists of pearl and purple; while
"The little birds sang as if it were
The one day of summer in all the year."
Matthew enjoyed the drive after his own fashion, except during the moments when he met women and had to nod to them-- for in Prince Edward island you are supposed to nod to all and sundry you meet on the road whether you know them or not.
Matthew dreaded all women except Marilla and Mrs. Rachel; he had an uncomfortable feeling that the mysterious creatures were secretly laughing at him. He may have been quite right in thinking so, for he was an odd-looking personage, with an ungainly figure and long iron-gray hair that touched his stooping shoulders, and a full, soft brown beard which he had worn ever since he was twenty. In fact, he had looked at twenty very much as he looked at sixty, lacking a little of the grayness." Mike read softly, as he went to turn the page he glanced down at El, who was sleeping peacefully at his side. Mike smiled and kissed her forehead and set the book on the floor. He carefully slipped under the covers and hugged El's petite frame to his chest, breathing in her scent of maple syrup and peach, an odd combo Mike thought but he loved it.
"Sweet dreams El." He said sweetly and kissed her again.
Unbeknownst to Mike, Hopper had arrived home a few minutes into his reading. Hopper had, as usual, set his things on the counter and grabbed a beer, sauntering over to Eleven's room to check up on her. After hearing the voice of "that Wheeler kid" Hopper instinctively frowned, but as he listened closer he could hear that he was reading to her, Anne of Green Gables. Hopper sighed and groaned quietly, knowing that if he made Mike stop or leave El would be pissed. He decided to let Mike stay the night, he would later call Mrs. Wheeler, and check in on the two once again.
Hopper peeked his head in the door and saw the two teens cuddling, young and in love. More like young and stupid Hopper thought to himself. He smiled subconsciously and left them alone.
"Sweet dreams kids." He muttered and went to his room to sleep.
