{New York Airport 1994}
Takka walks with his mother off of the plane while being handed passports and bags full of clothes, food, water, and blankets in them. A soldier walks up to Takka and his mother and hands them ID.
Soldier- "These are your new names."
Takka's mom- "But why do we need these?"
Soldier- "The body's of the men were found out to be hunting you and your son, we can't risk Talhi coming after you again. Ok?"
Takka's mother nods and walks away while reading Takka's ID.
Takka's Mom- "Luke Harris. (Reads hers) Rose Harris."
Takka looks up at his mother while they walk outside seeing cars and vehicles. Military vehicles sat full of the survivors that waited to be dropped off at their new homes.
Luke Harris- "Mama, why are we in the new land?"
Rose Harris- "Because my son, those men wanted us to be on the unwelcomed side of life."
Luke Harris- "Oh. (Looks at the boy while being handed a bottle of water) Thank you."
The boy smiles a little, he wore a white tank top shirt, shorts, sandals, and a black had with little white horns on the top of it. The boy looks at Luke and takes his hat off then hands the hat to Luke. Luke takes it nervously and puts it on and continues walking while looking at the boy.
One week later in an apartment in California, Luke sits on the deck outside of the living room watching cars, trucks, planes, and boats go past him in the distance. Inside Rose was sweeping the floor in the living room, Luke stands up and walks in seeing a box from the convenience store down the street. Inside of the boxes was food, drinks, and clothes. Luke took them out and placed them on the floor beside him and looked in the bag seeing a VHS player and a tape. Luke pulled the player out and sat it on his lap while looking at it. He sees the plug and takes it over to the wall and plugs it into the wall, he turns it on and places the tape inside.
Luke watches the TV as a man on the screen messed around with tools and electronics showing the viewer how to fix and work an electronic properly. Luke looked at Rose and pointed to the screen.
Luke Harris- "Mama, I want to do that."
Rose Harris- "Takka... I mean Luke you can do whatever you want in tis new land, nobody will come after you in this holy land. Do you hear me?"
Luke Harris- (Looks at the TV) "Yes mama."
Rose Harris- "Ok off to bed now. You have school tomorrow."
Luke Harris- (Climbing off of the couch) "Ok mama."
Luke walks down the hallway to his room and closes the door. In the living room, Rose stands up and walks over to the window and looks out at the sun setting over the ocean in the distance. She closes the curtains and turns around to her room. Later that night, Luke sleeps in his room while Rose sleeps on the couch in the living room. A knock hits the front door. Rose wakes up as another knock hits the door, she walks over to the door and opens it. Upon opening the door nobody stood on the other side, Rose looks up and down the hallway seeing nothing but walls, doors, and lights. She closes the door feeling a breeze pass her as the door shut, she walks back to the couch and lies down and begins drifting off to sleep. Luke walks out of his room and heads to the kitchen for a glass of water. While entering the living room Luke looks up while yawning and sees a man standing over his mother. Luke drops his glass, it shatters on the ground on impact. The man turns around with a blurry face, Luke tries to make out the eyes nose and mouth but couldn't see them only glowing green electric eyes. Luke blinks. When he opened his eyes the man was gone, Luke looked everywhere for the man but couldn't find him anywhere in the apartment. Luke heads back to his room.
The next morning, Luke sits in the principal's office at San Francisco middle school while his mother talks with the principle. Luke looks out the window seeing a hallway in the school, a girl walks by and catches his attention. Her black hair was curled and her red dress flowed to the floor, around the waist of the dress was a white strip. In the girls, arms were notebooks and a pencil case. Rose calls his name, Luke turns and looks at his mother and the principle.
Principle Wilke- "You will be Ok Luke, nobody's going to hurt you."
Luke Harris- "OK."
Rose Harris- (To Principle Wilke) "How would I pay for Luke to come to the school?"
Principle Wilke- "Don't worry Mrs. Harris, your son will be paid by the state."
Rose Harris- "What?"
Principle Wilke- "It means you won't have to pay for him."
Rose Harris- "Ok."
Principle Wilke- "So any other questions before we take him to meet his classes?"
Luke Harris- "May I have some water?"
Principle Wilke- (Points to the bubbler) "Of course."
Luke stands up and grabs a little cup and reaches for the lever. When he touches the lever a static shock hits his fingers, he jumps back in fear.
Principle Wilke- (Rose Looks) "Are you alright?"
Luke Harris- "I got shocked."
Principle Wilke- "That's called a static shock, it happens when you rub clothes on the carpet and touch something metal. Which in this case I find odd as the lever is made of plastic."
Luke grabs the lever with worry and pours water into his cup, he stops pouring and drinks from the cup. Principle Wilke and Rose stand up and walk to the door with Luke close behind them.
In a math classroom, Principle Harris, Rose, and Luke enter the room seeing students. Luke notices the girl from the hallway and looks at her, she looked back at him and smiled a little.
Principle Wilke- "Good morning class, I'm showing Mr. Harris around. He's a new student from Rwanda so I hope you all treat him with as much respect as he offers you."
Class- "Yes, Mr. Wilke."
Principle Wilke shows Luke to his seat, Luke sits down while placing his bag on the floor next to his desk. The desk next to Luke's was the girl from the hallway. Luke looks at his mother while Principle Wilke and Rose leave the room. The girl looks at Luke and Luke looks back at her, she says hi and tells him her name was Michael. She looked back at the teacher while continuing the lesson.
After class, Luke packs his bag in the classroom along with Michael next to him. Michael drops her notebook, the notebook opens showing drawings of flowers, birds, and rivers. Luke bends down and picks it up seeing the drawings.
Luke Harris- (Handing the book back to Michael) "I like that."
Michael Cornell- (Placing the book on her desk) "Thank you. (Goes to place the book in her backpack but stops while thinking) You know you seem different from most people."
Luke Harris- "How is that?"
Michael Cornell- "I don't know, you seem to have patience and potential energy but you know how to control it. (Rips the drawing out of the book and hands it to Luke) Would you want to hang out sometime? (Luke looks confused) I mean if you want to watch TV at your house or mine you just ask, OK?"
Luke nods while Michael puts her backpack on and walks out of the room, Luke looks at the drawing for a moment then places it in his bag and closes the bag and walks out of the room.
In Luke's room, Luke places the drawing on the wall and stands there looking at the art he received earlier that day. Luke smile for a moment while looking at the drawing. An echo shatters his dream as it called his name very loudly.
