November 20th

2:00 am

My doorbell ringing woke me up out of my sleep. I got up and threw on a robe to cover my bare body as I walked to my front door.

A figure stood there and I hit my porch lights. The light illuminated the figure.

I hadn't realized it was raining until I opened the door once I saw a crying Aja shivering on my porch.

"Aja?" I pulled her into the house quickly.

She was crying but mumbled. "I- I didn't know wh- where else to go. I'm sorry, I know it's l-late."

My eyes widened when I saw her appearance. She was scratched up in her face and her nose was bleeding.

I walked her to my couch and opted for her to sit. "Sit down Aja, let me go get you some dry clothes."

Aja shook her head. "No, I can't. I can't sit down."

"Why not?"

"Janet, I just can't." She muttered as she began crying harder.

"Okay, you don't have to sit. I'll run you some bath water, and I'll let you soak. Is that okay?" I asked her softly.

Aja and I had been talking for these past days, and I had come to know her very well, but this side was one I didn't know existed.

She was barren, and was showing me a vulnerable side of her. A hurt side of her and I wanted my happy Aja back more than anything right now.

Aja nodded at me and I smiled slightly. "I'll be right back."

I walked up the steps, but not before looking out the door.

Had Aja walked here in the rain?

Shaking it off, even though it bothered me heavily, I walked into my restroom and started the water. I poured some of my beads into it, and put spearmint scented bubble bath into it.

I lit some candles and quickly went back down the steps. Aja was just standing there staring off into oblivion.

"Aja?"

She jumped from my voice slightly, before looking at me. Her voice came out in a whisper. "Sorry, I don't know where my head is at right now."

"It's okay. Come on, let's get you in the bath." I walked over to her and tried to take her hand but she quickly pulled back.

Aja looked down at the ground as she responded. "I'll follow you."

Nodding slightly, I walked up the steps and she followed like she had told me she would.
