Detective Loki got his emergency flashlight and walked slowly towards the car. He could not figure out how many passengers were there. This could be an ambush.

"Hello?" He tried to call out. Everything was quiet. The engine was out but the headlights were still on. The lights on the trunk of the tree somehow reflected on the car and formed a shadow of the person inside it. The head was slammed on the steering wheel. And it looked like....

A woman? Detective Loki realized.

He ran immediately on the door on the driver's seat. It was a woman. And alone.

The door was locked and he could not smash the window open. He helplessly ran back to his car to find some tools to open the door. He got some wrenches then went back to the wrecked car and tried to open the door. The door gave up.

He immediately checked the pulse of the woman. Still breathing. He checked the head. The forehead was bleeding fast. He tried to lift the woman out of the car without causing more damage to the woman's body. The ambulance, which was owned by the police station, arrived in time.

Mobile sirens wailed along the Conyers highway at around 10 in the evening. The night duty officers of the police station responded fast.

The nearest hospital was in Jacksonville about seven miles away. They arrived after about 40 minutes. They went directly to the emergency station.

"What the hell happened?" His comrade, Ryan, years younger than David and the one on the night duty asked. The two of them were waiting outside the emergency room. The other two officers were left at the accident scene.

David shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know. She was overspeeding. She didn't see the blind curve. And there..."

"She's not from here, isn't she?"

"Yeah, she should have known the curve." David stood up. "I really need to rest. You can stay here, right?"

"Sure. Just wait with what the doctor has to say. By the way, John and George had left the area. They found no identification inside the car. We will tow tomorrow morning."

"No ID's?"

"Yeah, just some bottle of beers on the car mattings."

"She's drunk..."

"Guessed so.."

David sigh. "Perhaps, I will stay a little longer."

"Want to have a smoke outside?"

"Nah, I quit. "

Ryan laughed, unbelieving. "If you say so."

The two patiently waited. After almost an hour, the doctor went out and looked for them.

"The bleeding has stopped. Good thing you were able to bring her on time. Should you hesitated for a second, she's dead."

"That's good to hear..." Ryan said.

"Does that mean she is okay now?" It was David.

"For the meatime, yes she is. But we need to do some more tests. Perhaps by tomorrow."

The two look at each other.

"Okay, maybe we can take a rest now, doc. Just give us a call if necessary." David looked tired and sleepy.

"I guess I will stay for the night. Will wait until she wakes up." Ryan smiled.

"It's up to you. I'd better get going."

David went out of the hospital building. It was almost one past midnight.
