David awoke with the sound of the door unlocking. He heard some footsteps. David knew it was already morning. He sat still. Still blinfolded.
He heard a soft sobbing of a woman. Then he heard a voice of a man so powerful.
"Is this what you want Sarah?" Antonio asked.
"No!"
"This should not happen if you gave me what I am asking for. Now tell me where my stuff is. Else I will make this brave man crippled for life."
"You will kill us anyway! Just like what you did to my brother!"
"Didn't I tell you I honor my word? I do. But I knew your brother had a plan. He planned to bring down a man like me. A fool! That is why I need to do what I needed to do."
Antonio fired one shot, on the ceiling. David heard Sarah's horrified screaming.
"Speak now!" Antonio demanded.
Sarah bursted in tears. She knew she was only alive because of those pictures. But she knew he will kill them afterwards.
"OK, alright...please." Sarah whispered in between her tears. She looked around, looking for any hint of hope which she knew will never come. All of Antonio's men were armed. David's hands were tied. They were helpless. It was either they die or they die.
"Sarah...my men in Conyers are waiting and I am losing my patience."
"I hid it in the car..."
"What car?" Antonio was impatient.
"What is it Sarah?" David asked. "If that will bring this man down, you'd better not tell-"
Antonio shot David on his left leg. David arched in pain. Sarah wanted to run to him but she was grabbed by Antonio's men.
"No!" She cried loudly.
"You don't need to say anything," Antonio was speaking to David, "Your life depends on what Sarah has to say."
Sarah lost all her strength. She crumbled on the floor. "I, I hid it in the car. The one I stole, it was parked at the police station, in Conyers...under the backseat."
"Good...good..." Antonio spoke to someone on his cellphone. "I will give you an hour to find it. Call me back after one hour..."
Antonio turned to Sarah. "I ain't a bad man... I will give you time to say goodbye to each other while we confirm what you just said."
Antonio gestured to his men and they left the room. David and Sarah were locked in.
Sarah hurriedly went to David. She removed his blindfold and tied the piece of cloth around his injured leg to stop the bleeding. Then she touched his face. The face she thought she will never see again. She longed to touch his face. "I am sorry David, I am sorry."
"I love you, Sarah. I guess I have to say it now before I lose my time."
Sarah kissed him on the lips. Both of them were wanting to do this for a long time. Then they stared at each other's face and eyes. The dark circles were back on Sarah's round eyes.
Sarah untied him and they embraced each other. Their faces touching. For a minute they forgot the situation they were in.
"You shouldn't come here." Said Sarah.
"I'd rather die than not be with you."
"You are a fool. I am a prisoner here." Sarah chuckled.
"And you imprisoned me as well. Never been such a fool like this. Never a second that I did not think of you. Eversince you came."
Sarah looked at him intently. Trying to see if what he had said was true. His eyes were telling her the same.
"I should have shown you those things they were looking for. If not only had I forgotten everything, we should be free by now...and I have already avenged my brother."
"He killed your brother."
Sarah's face grew dim. "I was forced to marry him so he can spare my brother's life."
"But he killed him."
Sarah stood up. " We need to get out of this place."
"Yeah." David groaned. He tried to stand and ignore the pain on his lower leg. No fractured bone though.
They checked the windows. It can be opened however they were on the third floor of the house. They definitely could not jump out of the window. Even if they could, Antonio's men will be waiting for them on the ground.
She knocked on the walls. They were concrete. Then the door. The wood used was solid. There were no available furniture in the room that she can use to barricade the door.
She turned to David. "Give me your belt.."
David was confused but he gave his belt anyway. Sarah used the belt's prong to pick the latch of the doorknob so to keep the bolt from moving if the knob was turned from outside. It will work but definitely not for long. At least it will give them some time to think.
"What do you have in mind?" David asked her.
Sarah was looking at the ceiling. Then she looked at David. David was badly hurt. "Can you walk? No, I mean climbed up?"
David looked at where Sarah was looking. There was an air vent on the ceiling. They could climb up there and hide.
"The other side of this house is a mountain forest. We can climb up the ceiling, crawl across to the other side then we can cross the bridge when we ge there."
"You sure on this?" David was quite amazed by how she was able to get that idea.
"Yeah, let's move."
