David and the woman was waiting at the nurse's station for their clearance. The woman was now wearing the same clothes she wore when the accident occured. It was a body hugging black dress with sleeve. There were still bandages on her head.
David noticed the jewel on her ring finger. It wasn't there a while ago.
"You are married." He said.
The woman chuckled. She looked at the wedding ring on her finger. They asked her to remove it during the MRI. "Am I? I don't know...maybe."
David gave her a lopsided grin.
"They said you are a good person." The woman was referring to the nurses. The nurses seemed to hear they were referred to for they looked at their direction and smiled at them.
"They do?" David remembered. This was the same hospital where he rushed the daughter of Keller Dover and saved her from poisoning.
"So what shall I call you? I mean, for the meantime." David asked.
"I don't know..."
"Well, since your mother did not let you choose your name, maybe you can choose one now."
The woman smiled and think for a minute. "I love Tara."
"Tara? Sounds nice. Tara it is."
"How about you? How shall I call you?"
"Everybody calls me Detective. Detective Loki."
"Is that your first name? What's your first name?"
"David. David Wayne."
"Thank you for saving my life, David."
"That's my job."
"Where am I supposed to go after this?" The woman asked. She was looking at him, helplessly.
David suddenly looked serious. He stared at the floor. That was the same question he asked after his parents died in an accident. He knew the feeling. Of being so young and left alone and had nowhere to go. He still had that feeling until now.
"We can run your pictures in the newspaper and TV ads."
The woman was suddenly scared. She let out a deep breath. "I do not know if you'll believe me but there is one thing I feel is true about me."
"What is?"
"I am running and I am being chased. I see people on my dream trying to catch me. And I need to run for my life."
"You see their faces?"
"Just shadows..."
David thought about the money and the car. Did she steal the money? Maybe that was why she was running. He remembered the bruises on her legs and feet. He brushed away the thoughts for the meantime. He needed to get her to somewhere.
They went out of the hospital. David led Tara on the parking lot where his car was parked. He checked the address of the women's shelter on his cellphone. The only shelter in the state of Pennsylvania.
David started the car but was having second thoughts. First, the weather was not good and they have to drive a few miles away to get there. Secondly, he cannot dropped her off like that without answers to his question regarding the money and the car. And lastly, he did not want Tara to feel the same way he felt the last time. It was a dreadful feeling. Especially when you knew nothing even about yourself.
So David decided. If Tara agrees, she can live with him for the meantime. He asked Tara. "Would you like to stay with my house for the meantime?"
Tara's eyes grew big in bewilderment. That was exactly what she wanted. Because she knew David was a good person and would cause no harm. Besides, she had known David was a police detective and could protect her from whoever they were, wanting to hurt her.
"I-I do, thank you." Tara almost wanted to cry.
David made a u-turn and drove back towards the Conyers county. They pulled over to a shopping center to buy some medicines and clothes for Tara.
Tara was hesitant to come out of the car with him. She was afraid she might be noticed. At the same time, David was also hesitant to leave her alone at the car. The car she drove didn't have keys. The engine was started using connected wires. He was afraid to lose his.
Tara only came out of the car when he said he can fight them all. Whoever they were.
No one was talking until they reach David's house.
