"Hello?"
Sarah was relieved to hear David's voice, when she thought she will never see him again. "D-david?"
"Tara!"
"It's Sarah..."
"Sarah, are you okay? Where are you? I will come to you and get you."
"No, I am okay now. I remember everything now. I, I came back to my...my husband."
"I saw him hurt you..."
"He was jealous. Thought I ran away... to be with you."
"You are lying." David remembered the bruises on her ankles and legs.
"David, my husband knew you are here to find me. He knew where you are. And he...is decided to kill you."
"Do you love him?"
There was dead air.
"It does not matter." Sarah answered after a few seconds. "Just leave before he gets you. Please listen to me."
"What if I say I like you, too? I want to spend more time with you..."
There was dead air again.
"I am sorry, I am a married woman, David. I only said I like you because I did not know I am married."
"I am not leaving until I see to myself that you are okay."
"David, you do not understand. He will kill you...go now...please..." Sarah was almost crying. She needed to convince David to run away.
David heard Sarah cried in pain. She was no longer on the phone. "Sarah!"
He heard shouts and some noise. David held his breath. David knew her husband or whoever he is was hurting her again. No. He cannot leave her here like that. He can no longer hear anything. Then the line went busy.
David slowly sat down on a nearby chair. He was confused but he knew one thing. He needed to save Sarah from that devil.
He just sat there with closed fists. It was a torture for him to know Sarah was being hurt but he could not do anything. He was disturbed by the knocks on his apartment door. He checked his watch, about 8 in the evening.
He partially opened the door to check who it was. There were four men outside. He hinted they were Antonio's men. He won't have to search for Sarah anymore. He just needed to come with them. Not knowing what was waiting for him. He longed to see Sarah.
The men frisked him for any weapon. They got his cellphone, removed its battery and threw it on the ground. When satisfied, they led him to their vehicle. He was blindfolded while on their way to Antonio's mansion. His hands were tied in his back. David had no idea where they were taking him.
David estimated it to be about an hour or so before the vehicle stopped moving. The men led him to a room then they left him there.
Then silence. No one came. It was almost forever. The silence was deafening.
"Hello?" He called. He knew nobody could hear him.
He fell asleep.
