His body clock woke him up at six in the morning. He heard some noise on the kitchen. He almost forgot he had a housemate now. He saw Tara searching on the kitchen cabinets and drawers. He just looked at her and leaned on the wall connecting the kitchen and the living room. He rubbed his nose. She looked like a younger version of Catherine Zeta Jones.
Tara was startled when she saw him.
"I was looking for something to cook. I see there's none."
David did not know what to say. He never cook. His fridge only got milk and still milk. He had some canned goods though like pork and beans. And bread. But no coffee to make.
"We can have our breakfast at the nearest coffee shop." He said instead.
"I can shop for you."
"You can? You may need to have a rest. That's what the doctor said."
"I am stronger than before."
"OK."
David only shopped for some clothes and books. He only visited grocery stores for hygiene products like shavers and soaps. He was used to eating at restaurants or buying ready to eat food. The life of living alone.
They had their breakfast at the restaurant near the grocery store at the highway. They went inside the grocery store after eating.
"So what food do you prefer?" Tara asked him.
"I eat almost everything." David said.
"Oh, that would make everything easier for me."
They got a push cart and started scanning the gondolas inside the store. David just pushed the cart. He let Tara do the shopping. David was a bit surprised when they got to the cashier. He shrugged his shoulders and pay through his credit card the amount of around $200 and some cents.
Tara was smiling.
After driving Tara back to his house with the groceries, he drove towards the police station. He had a lot of things to do. But before that, he went to Martha's house. He pulled over to the side and walk towards the house. He knocked on the door.
Martha opened the door.
"Is it Saturday already?" Martha seemed confused. She was the nearest neighbor he had.
"Oh, no, not yet. Today is a Thursday. Just want to ask a favor from you."
"Uh, OK?"
"I have somebody in the house. Would you take a look at her for me from time to time? I mean just in case you see something weird or unnatural, please call me, would you?"
"A she?" Martha confirmed. That was the first time he brought somebody in his house.
David nodded.
"OK then.."
"Thank you Martha."
David was uneasy. He could not fully trust Tara due to the stunning evidence at hand. The stolen car and the money. Though he pity her.
