"What?!" David was talking to George on his cellphone, one of the police who worked with him last night. "Will be there."
He turned off his cellphone and got out of bed. It was seven in the morning. He missed his alarm clock. Or maybe he had turned it off when it first alarmed.
He washed his face, brush his teeth and changed into some working clothes. He checked his face in the mirror. His eyes were dark and his face needed shaving. Perhaps he could also see a barber if he has time. He put on his favorite hooded cloak. It was snowing outside.
He grabbed a coffee and donut from the coffee shop by the highway. He consumed it while driving his way to the police station.
He went directly on the evidence room. The deputy chief was there, looking at the duffle bag full of cold cash. The money was found from the woman's car. He estimated it to be more than a hundred thousand dollars.
"Do you think we have a case here?" It was Harry, the Deputy Chief of Conyers Police.
David started blinking. He did that whenever he was thinking or staring at something.
"We do not know yet...except for the stolen plates and car." It was George.
"Ok then, just give me an update on this." Harry walked out of the room and went back to his office.
"It was stolen?" David turned to George. He was surprised.
"The car was reported stolen three days ago. The owner was a certain Robert Mayers. Said it went missing from the parking lot at the shopping center in Fayette, Kentucky. The plates however, were stolen in Mayland, Pennsylvania. Around 5 o'clock yesterday morning."
"They have a suspect?"
"The only clue was a hooded guy. No visuals on the face. The culprit knew where the CCTV's were located. Same suspect from Fayette and Mayland."
"What about the money? No reports of robbery or thief?"
"No. None at all."
"We need to check that with the woman. Was it marked?" David was referring to the money. He was checking the bundles of hundred dollar bills. Then he closed the bag.
"I think it's clean." George said.
"We can safekeep it until we talk to the woman." David rubbed his cheekbones with his left hand. "Has Ryan called yet?"
"Nope. But I think he went home already. Asked me to tell you. Said the doctor will give clearance later."
David nodded. "OK, I will check with him later."
"I will go home now. My duty's over." George said.
David and George left the room. George went home while David went to his table and slouched on his swivel chair.
He looked on the memos pinned on his corkboard that was hanged on the wall in front of him. He smiled sarcastically. There were two pictures of two animals, a Persian cat and a golden retriever. The owners personally asked him to look for them. He was not sure if he would consider that as a compliment or an insult.
He unpinned the pictures and took them to one of the department staff on duty.
"Missing," He said. He showed the pictures and put them on the staff's table. "Contact numbers at the back."
The staff gave him a weary face.
Took a look at the photos then put it on top of his overloaded files.David went back to his station. He had more important things to do.
He was browsing on his files when his cellphone rang. It was from the hospital.
"Hello?"
"Detective Loki, please?"
"Speaking..."
"I am Anne, the one who attends to the woman you brought here last night. The doctor wants you here."
"What about?"
"The woman already woke up..the thing is she remembers nothing."
David just stared at the floor.

2:00PM"Mr. Mayers!"
A man with a big body built called Mr. Robert Mayers, the owner of the stolen car. The man was in mid-40's, wearing a black coat and dark sunglasses. He had two men with the same built behind him.
Mr. Mayers was just about to get into his wife's car. He just reported his car being stolen. He stopped and looked at the person who called him.
The man started talking.
"I'm sorry for what happened to your car. I know who did it. My wife. The jeep that was behind your stolen car? That was hers. You can have it or I can pay for your car."
"What do you want?"
"I don't want my wife to have police records. I will pay for your car, or you can have the jeep, that's more expensive than your old vehicle. Just let me know once the police find your car."
Mr. Mayers gave him an angry look and slammed his door.
