Chapter 12

I knew I was told I couldn't sleep in my biology class anymore, but I couldn't help it today. I just wasn't feeling well and I was probably going to feel worse if I didn't rest my head on my desk.

Tony ended up waking me up but instead of immediately getting mad at me for sleeping when I promised him I wouldn't, he said, "Nolan, are you okay?"

"Yeah," I said. "I'm just feeling a little sick."

"Are you going to be fine staying here?" he asked.

I nodded. "Yeah, I'll be fine." That was before I started feeling some churning in my stomach. "Actually, can I go to the washroom?"

"Yeah, of course," Tony said, so I got up from my desk and left the classroom, hurrying to the closest washroom. I really hoped nobody else was in there because I had a feeling I was about to puke.

Thankfully, nobody was in the washroom. I should have guessed that since the washroom in the science wing was rarely used for some reason.

I did end up throwing up and once I finished and flushed the toilet, I just sat on the ground leaning against the stall door as tears pooled my eyes because I was a very emotional person.

I once cried because there was the tiniest spider in my room and I didn't want to kill it, and my whole family refused to get it out for me.

I really didn't think I could be at school anymore, so I pulled my cell  phone out of my pocket to call Jerome. Please pick up, please pick up...

I really thought Jerome wasn't going to pick up because the phone just kept ringing but he finally picked up at literally the last second. "Nolan, is everything okay?" he asked. "Why are you calling during school?"

"Can you pick me up?" I asked. "I'm really sick and I don't think I can stay longer."

"Well, you called at just the right time because I just finished my shift at the cafe," Jerome said. "I'll be at your school as soon as I can, okay?"

       "Okay, thank you," I said.

After we hung up, I stayed where I was for a bit before getting up and heading back to the classroom. Tony was at his desk so I walked over to him and asked if it was okay if I went him. He agreed to it, of course, because he could tell I really wasn't feeling well.

Tony wrote me a note to give the office when I signed out, and then I went to my desk and packed up my stuff before leaving the classroom. I was still feeling very nauseous and felt like throwing up again. I just hoped I could hold it in until I got home.

After signing out at the office, I left the school and sat down on a bench as I waited for Jerome to show up. It felt like forever but only because time was going by slowly since I felt so sick.

When his car finally pulled up in the parking lot, I walked over and opened the passenger door. There was a cloth bag sitting on the seat so Jerome moved it for me to sit down. "I got some chicken soup in here from the cafe," he said, handing the bag to me. "And some saltine crackers."

I smiled softly. "Thanks. Hopefully I can actually stomach the soup."

Jerome drove me to my house and that was when I noticed that my mom's car wasn't in the driveway and I would rather not be home alone when I was sick, so I asked Jerome if he could stay with me and he agreed to.
