Elana and I sat at a seafood place. Her eyes glistened and I felt on cloud 9. When we finished dinner, we walked on the boardwalk hand in hand.

“I want to get on the Ferris wheel. I love how it’s above the beach.” Elana looked up at it.

“You want to get on it now?” I looked at the people climbing aboard.

“Are you crazy? At night? If we get on and something just so happens the Ferris wheel breaks and goes into the water; they wouldn’t find us. Well not in that dark water.” She explained.

“You can’t call your mermaid friends to rescue us?” I joked.

“No Diggy, I can’t call my mermaid friends because I don’t have any.” Her lips gave a soft smile.

“Can I have a kiss?” I asked.

She leaned in and pecked my lips. I raised my eyebrows surprised.

“Don’t be greedy.” She responded.

“Why can’t I be? I haven’t got a real genuine kiss from my girlfriend in months.” I replied.

“I know…” She said softly and placed her head down.

“I didn’t mean to-“

“It’s cool. I deserved that.”

“No you didn’t. I shouldn’t have said that.” I felt guilty.

She continued to look down as we walked the boardwalk. I felt uncomfortable by the silence. I squeezed her hand gently. I couldn’t help but stare at her. I was clueless on what to do or what to say. I didn’t want to smother her too much or she’ll distance herself further than before.

“ummm…do you need a cigarette?” I asked hesitantly.

She shot her head up and looked into my eyes.

“You’re kidding…right?” She asked.

“No.”

“Daniel I been stopped smoking. I only smoked because of Jionni and when life got really tough. I hate the smell of cigarette smoke and I always have to shampoo my hair because of the smell. I don’t even want to be near a lighter. Me and fire aren’t the best of friends at the moment.” She looked at her legs.

Her legs was covered in makeup to disguise the marks.

“I’m sorry.” I apologized.

“It’s fine. It was just a misunderstanding.”

This time I put my head down. I felt even worse. Lost in my own thoughts I tripped over an object and hit the ground on my injured side.

I moaned and sat up. I held my side. It hurt so bad that I couldn’t jump back up and brush it off. Embarrassed; I looked around. Elana helped me up. The first tear dropped from my eyes and I turned red. We walked back to the car and I sat in the passenger seat. I bit my lip and placed my head back. Elana drove us home as I continued to cry silently in pain. Elana glanced at me a few times. I felt even more embarrassed. We pulled into the driveway and Elana helped me out the car. She opened the front door and followed me upstairs into my room. She picked out some of my pajamas and put them in the bathroom. I heard her run the bath water.

I lit some candles and put bubble solution in the water. When the tub was halfway full I called Daniel. He was still crying.

“Come get in the bathtub and I’ll be back in a moment.” I walked out into the hallway.

I went to my room and changed into this: http://www.polyvore.com/sweet_dreams_love/set?id=63671427#stream_box I walked back into the bathroom when I thought Diggy was in. As I walked in, I heard him crying more this time like he was crying for help. I grabbed the bar of soap out of the soap dish and a clean wash cloth. I got on my knees near the bathtub and wet the cloth with water. I started to wash Daniel’s arms. He closed his eyes. I continued to clean him. His cries made my heart sink.
