TITLE: NOT THE ONE

You're going to love the one who doesn't love you for not loving the one who did.

The words replayed in his mind as if a song was. It didn't matter how hard he tried to get them out, they were glued and on continuous repeat.
It had been like that for a week now, since he developed the tiniest crush on his best friend.
Now, it wasn't so tiny.
He was now head over heels for the blonde boy. Worst part? He was as straight as he could be; the cliche douche with the cheerleader girlfriend. The one who would never notice you.

At this point Zach could only think that it was karma, maybe for the bad things he had done in life, maybe for ditching Jack that night when they were supposedly going to a date.

He thought that he deserved it. For not loving who loved him.

In reality, it was just coincidence.
A coincidence that he had fallen in love with that guy.
It wasn't meant to be, it just happened. Not even fate had it planned.

That's what brought him where he was.
Sitting on the edge of that old harbour he used to visit with his grandmother. The one where he held his sixth birthday party.

He sat there, watching the sea.
Hoping he could be part of it. Not worrying about anything. Just being there, moving around the world.

But then it hit him.
The sea had problems too.
The pollution; the fishers; the boats; the sun; the people...

He realised that maybe he was the sea. With his own problems, just moving around, trying to find something to hold. His own fishes.

Or maybe, his mind was just playing sick games just because he was sad. His brain may had been messing around.

He really didn't know.
He doesn't know now either.
He just knew he sat there for long three hours until his phone rang, and he had to go home.

Once at home he did regular life, he had dinner, then showered and went to bed.
He didn't sleep though, his mind was still playing the sea trick. He could swear that he felt waves every time he closed his eyes.
But again, who could tell if it was real or it wasn't.

The next morning he dressed up quick, left without breakfast and sped down the street to school. He was eager to see his friends and tell them what was going on.

To his surprise, or not really, the first thing he was met with was his crush aka the Corbyn Besson, kissing his girlfriend aka the slut, aka Katherine. The view almost made him gag, scratch that, he did gag, which brought attention to him.

— You have a problem lil fag?

One of the douches said.
He swore to god they were like minions, there were like billions of them.

— Yo dude, just leave him alone.

The biggest douche bag said, the leader, once again, the Corbyn Besson.

— The faggot is just jealous of us mate.

Zach found it funny. He even laughed in the blonde's face. And no one, no one, was able to do that.

— Did you just laugh? Do you know who you're talking to?

The statement, more like a question, just made Zach laugh more.

— I'm sorry, I just find really funny the fact that you think I'm jealous of you. Jealous of what? Of being an asshole to everyone? If treating others like shit just because you're a lil insecure ass? Let me tell ya that I'm fine. I don't need your popularity or your money. Don't even need a boyfriend like your girl. I just need my friends, the ones that are real, not like yours, and high grades. Cause, to be honest, with high grades I can be something in life, with popularity in high school... well... i don't really know what you're going to do.

He shrugged and left.
The group was amazed and so was him.
He hadn't had the courage to talk to him and he, certainly, didn't expect that, when he finally spoke to him he would insult him.
But for some reason he realised that he wasn't the one for him.
And he also realised that he couldn't just go with the flow like the sea.
He had to be a tsunami and stand up for himself.
