I don't know what I'm thinking.
It's supposed to be our first official date. That is, Joey and mine. But somehow my sister and her boyfriend got involves in this whole situation.
When I arrived at the restaurant I saw Joey at the front of the reservation table, and with him was two familiar faces. When I walked over, I realized it was Tess and Shawn with him.
Long story short, Joey couldn't get us a reservation and my sister and her boyfriend offered us seats, and I agreed to it, although Joey seemed hesitant about it.
And so here we are.
"Great," Tess says with a smile. "Come on."
She takes Shawn by the hand and I'm almost tempted to take Joey's but I control myself. We both follow my sister and her boyfriend to their four-people table, Shawn sits next to Tess and I sit next to Joey.
We exchange looks before giving them a slight smile the waitress comes around.
"Hi, what can I get you?" she asks, her pen tip touching the surface of her notepad, just ready to write.
We make our orders quickly and the waitress nods as she scribbles it down. She asks if we want any drinks, and I tell her I just want water, and Joey does the same. Tess orders some soda and Shawn orders a semi- alcoholic drink.
Once the waitress is gone we just start to make small chat.
"So, how've you two been?" Tess asks, giving us pointed looks. Her eyes are mainly focused on Joey, I notice and I just raise an eyebrow at that.
She doesn't know about us.
Joey just chuckles nervously and nods. "We've been... good. Yeah."
I look at Joey with a slight frown. I lean over to him to whisper in his ears. "Should we tell them?"
I can already feel my heart beat at the thought. I'm scared but I don't want to hide us. I'm not ashamed of Joey, nor am I ashamed of our relationship. At first I was a little afraid, and I might've been insecure, but now I'm fully sure.
Joey gulps but nods, mouthing, 'okay'.
We both turn to face Tess and Shawn, who just look at us with confused expressions. I look at Joey before nodding and smiling, and then I turn back to the other couple.
"Okay, um, we have something to tell you and I hope you guy can accept us and support us," I begin. "Okay. Um."
Joey takes my hand under the table and holds it tightly, giving me an encouraging squeeze.
"We're dating," we say in unison.
Shawn gasps and looks a little surprised, but Tess remains calm. She smiles a little.
"Okay, which one of you fessed up?" She asks with a chuckle.
I blush and chuckle the slightest bit. "I think we both sort of knew, but Joey was the one to say it out loud," I admit, looking down with a smile, and I'm surprised when Joey pressed a kiss to my cheek with an 'I love you'.
"Aww," Tess cooed. "You guys are so adorable."
Shawn just cackles. "Wow. I... I don't know what to say. That wasn't something I expected, but I support you guys one hundred percent. As long as you guys are happy, it's all good."
I smile widely. "You guys are the best," I breathe, releasing the breath I didn't realise I was holding.
They both just laugh and nod.
"Really, it means a lot," Joey adds on. "We mean it."
I nod and they just smile.
"Of course."
The rest of the dinner date goes well, and the tension is clear out of the air. We laugh and chat and joke around, and everything's great. I smile and I see Joey smile.
I'm probably the happiest I've ever been in a long time.
