The following morning was a drag, although I had been used to getting up in the early hours of the day, the events following brought my mood down to say the least, but it was still happier than Beth's, who as she stumbled out of her room, rubbed her eye, yawned then sent a very agitated look to me.
The school year was coming to the end, and it was just about heading into exams. Over dinner, Jane had explained how this week would be the final one before study leave, in which students would be preparing for their exams. As I only had one more week to stay, the school allowed me to sit my exams this same week as well. I had 4, I had already sat my art exam meaning I only had two of Psychology and two of maths left.
I was fully packed to go to 'high school', I hated the fact it was all different to the schools in England, the names and grades were all messed up. Beth and I had a quick breakfast of cereal then went upstairs to get ready. I dressed in my least 'agent' outfit as possible. I wore dark jeans with a slightly cropped top, I then finished it off with slightly dark makeup and some light jewellery. I had to admit that since joining the Avengers team, my style had become more suited to a vampire coven, I was definitely becoming a goth.
Me a Beth arrived at the high school in about 10 minutes, I think we were both dragging it out as much as possible. The entrance was big, reminding me of all the classic teen movies. I was hesitant to walk in, but Beth quickly grabbed my arm, dragging me inside, and what was waiting for me? Hundreds of staring eyes. I could feel the teens silently judging me. After being stood quite shocked for some time, I had a thought... I was working with the Avengers to fight of aliens, monsters and the most villainous villains of all time and I was afraid of some teen bitches? I gathered myself, stood up straight with my head held high and stormed down the hall like it was a catwalk. Beth stayed close to myside and showed me to my locker and classrooms. I could see a couple of boys point my way and smiled to myself, not because I was giddy that some guys found me attractive, but instead that I had THE Captain America practically waiting for me back at Stark tower, and none of them knew.
The day went by pretty quickly, the lessons were pretty much the same as in England, I could see that I needed to do some catching up if I was to pass my exams which worried me slightly, but Beth always offered to help. At lunch I sat with Beth and her friends, I could see they were confused and I got this feeling that they didn't really like me.
My last class was Psychology, my female teacher seems to watch over me a lot, probably because I was new and looked like I should be part of the Addams family. She pulled me behind after class and offered catch up lessons if I was to need them. My psychology exam was on the Friday, so I thought later in the week I would definitely take up her offer.
Me and Beth got home around 4, we were both pretty tried and quickly went off to our separate rooms, Jane was still at work and would be for the next several hours. I closed my door and decided to destress with some power training. I again closed my eyes and tried moving my school bag in the corner. Half a minute later I opened my eyes, only to find it in the same place it was before. I was confused but again closed my eyes and lifted my hand, concentrating on the object and how I wanted it to move. I again opened my eyes to find that nothing had changed. Had I lost my power? If so how? What would happen to me if Director Fury found out?
One last time I closed my eyes and lifted my hand. This time I focused all my thoughts on the bag. I pictured my powers moving inside my arm and through the rest of my body, right to my fingertips. My hand started to shake, and my head started to hurt. I opened my eyes, they were blurred but as they adjusted I couldn't believe what I saw. Every object in the room was off the floor, levitating in it's place. When I realised what was happening and dropped my hand, all the objects dropped with a loud bang. The room was an utter mess. I scrambled as I tried to pick everything up and put it back where it was. I heard Beth down the hall asking if everything was okay to which I would huff out, 'Yeah, everything's fine, I'm just changing!' I heard her footsteps leave again and I was left to think about what just happened. Did I really do that. It was just like the first mission again when I lost control of my powers. Why did my powers spike?
I didn't bother trying to use them again, instead I finished tidying up and re-packed my back for the next day. The actual school day was uneventful which was refreshing, I hoped the rest of the week would be more of the same.
